Kitchen cabinets into sideboard

I have two projects on the go in my head.

This is the second one. I want to create a sideboard out of upper kitchen cabinets.

I have a variety of ideas uising various sizes. But I can not hang these on the wall where I want to like a normal install so I was wondering how I could go about it.

I have seen examples but no one disucces how they attach them together.
Would a l bracket work?

I want to then get some sort of top out of marble or granite cut and then extended down the side of teh unit.

the other question I have is regarding the legs. What legs are the best
and would it look funny because there would have to be four legs per cabinet.
here is a hack but it does not look like they used four per cabinet so I am not sure how they did it

IKEA Hackers: ted's terrific sideboard

Re: Kitchen cabinets into sideboard

You can use the Capita legs, they come in three different heights. Legs can be shared between two cabinets, to avoid having doubled legs.

To fasten the cabinets together, you would use the (included) cabinet-fastening bolts. These are installed through a set of the shelf holes, wherever you are not using a hole for an actual shelf. You can use four per set of cabinets and it will hold them quite securely.

If you don't use the hanging rail, you'll need to trim to flange at the back of the bottom of the cabinet since it is designed to accommodate the offset for the hanging rail. You'll also need a way to secure the cabinets to the wall in some other way. What is the reason you can't use the hanging install?

You'll definitely want a top since you'll see the cam bolts otherwise.

Re: Kitchen cabinets into sideboard

That's a gorgeous sideboard! For a moment, I thought it was 'our' ted, but this line gave it away: "i used the numbar (can't locate this on the ikea website and also not totally sure of the name) stainless steel doors,"

'Our' ted would never get the name wrong! lol Regardless, ted's sideboard is a winner!

For reference, stacylu posted pictures of her 'hutch' and I posted pictures of one as well. Maybe it's time for an article on sideboards/hutches? hmmm...

Re: Kitchen cabinets into sideboard

Awww thanks Susan, now I feel like part of the family!
Here are are few examples of wall-mounted sideboards
made from Ikea cabinets for your article. I think the other
Ted was referring to the Numerar stainless steel doors
which preceded the current Rubrik stainless doors.

Re: Kitchen cabinets into sideboard

Ok, the article on IKEA hacked sideboards and hutches has been updated to include ted's new sideboards.

Re: Kitchen cabinets into sideboard

Kitchen renovations of older or historic houses typically include new cabinetry. Historic homes often have no built-in cabinets and older homes commonly have inadequate or outdated cabinets.
