Stinky Lamplig Cutting Board

I just recently purchased the Lamplig cutting board. I think it's a great board, it's large and for the price you can't beat it. The BIG problem I have is that it smells like varnish or mineral oil. So much so that when I chop tomatoes they smell like the oil on the board. I washed the board with soap and water 3 times and still smells. Unless anyone can come up with a solution to get rid of the oil smell, I'm going to return it. I would much rather get rid of the oil smell. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Has anyone had any luck in finding a sink mat that is large enough to fit the Domsjo single bowl apron sink? Everything I've been able to hunt down is too small - even when they call it a 'large'.

Any input about knobs and pulls?

Hope I can share some thoughts...

Hope I can share some thoughts with some people and get feedback. I am in the middle of installing Adel white kitchen and still mooching over knobs and pulls. My latest fad is using Siro European pulls in black but worried about them looking dominating. I still want black fittings no matter what but 6 inches just sounds big and I'm finding it hard to visualize or find pics. Wondering if a mix of the 6 inch pulls with the smaller 3 inch t bars would work and be less imposing? Just trying to throw around some ideas with like minded people. :IKEA:

Celeber or Droppar?

I've been looking for an oil and...

I've been looking for an oil and vinegar set featuring white glass or ceramic construction (instead of just clear glass) for my new kitchen. I'd probably only use one for oil and ditch the stand and stash the second bottle.

Has anyone used the Celeber or Droppar sets?

I really don't mind paying more for a product that doesn't suck (read: stopper leaks, spout comes apart when stopper is removed, insufficient or overwhelming flow, too light and flimsy, etc). Maybe I'll just get a scientific grade glass cruet that's clear... Any recommendations?

Numerar birch countertops - finishing plan - on the right track?

Hello all, I'm new to these boards...

Hello all, I'm new to these boards and have dutifully (well, obsessively) read through all the posts on finish options for the birch butcherblock countertops. I think I have finalized my plan, but wondered if those in the know had any light to shed?

The two key things for me are that I want to keep them as light as possible and am paranoid about the effects of water damage. I'm not too fussed about the surface being food-safe, I'll have enough huge pieces left over to make cutting boards that are.

One counter will have a sink hole in it, and will span a dishwasher as well. My plan for that counter right now is to waterlox the entire underside, including the sinkhole edges and the 1/2 inch under the sink rim topside, leave the fixa barrier area unvarnished, and coat the topside with mineral oil.

The other counter will cover cabinets only, no water anywhere. My plan for that one was to leave the underside untouched, and mineral-oil the topside.

Any thoughts, insights, screams of stop right now? Any suggestions for a better all-over sealant that would maintain as light a color as possible?

Thanks folks!
