Expedit Storage Hack Idea? Help please!

Hi everyone! First time poster,...

Hi everyone! First time poster, love the site! Reminds me of how creative humans can be... awesome.

I'm looking for help on my first hack... My recording studio has been without organization for cables & mic stands for FAR TOO LONG. I'm attempting to build some sort of all-in-one solution, and I think an Expedit bookshelf would be perfect. If anyone can help guide me before I blow all my dough I'd really appreciate it.

Essentially, I'd take the 2 row case (IKEA | Storage furniture | Bookcases | EXPEDIT | Bookcase) on it's side making it horizontal. I would build it up halfway and use the four cubby holes as drawers with Lekman boxes (IKEA | Boxes & baskets | Paper & media boxes | LEKMAN | Box).

Secondly, I'd build some sort of box or "cage" on top of the perimeter of the bottom half to be able to lay microphone stands inside of it. This way, I can store cables in the four boxes, and keep all of our mic stands in the top portion without them falling out on each side. I think the "cage" section will be plenty large enough to house the stands as they measure about 6" wide and about 3' tall.

Here are some plans that I quickly sketched out... totally makeshift, just to clarify the general concept:

Any help or guidance about how this can be done would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much everyone!

Transform Expedit Shelving Unit/Bench to Table

Newbie to the forum and need help....

Newbie to the forum and need help. I am obsessed with creating a long, narrow console-like table from an expedit bench/shelf to be used as a dining table for our small apartment. We have an existing expedit bench and would like get a second bench and hack it into table that is slightly longer and taller than the bench itself so that when we push the table inward the bench will fit directly underneath it. Like nesting tables. I figure we can hacksaw one long side of the bench in half to create two legs and add a piece to the other long side to create a tabletop that is long and tall enough to fit above the bench. Anyone have any ideas on how to get two pieces to fit together without the predrilled holes? Should we use brackets?

Thanks!

me and the GF have been looking for a new TV stand and nothing really fit what we were looking for. I saw someone use a expedit 5x1 bookcase as a tv stand and I liked that idea. but the kicker is to use it that way I want I would need to be able to modify the shelf layout. how hard would it be to move where the shelfs mount on it? basically what I need is 2 "cubes" worth of space in the mid for my center channel and receiver. then add the other shelfs as dividers in the remaining space. any thoughts?

Hi,

I recently purchased an A/V Receiver for my Home Theater setup. Unfortunately, I realized it is too deep to fit nicely into my Stockholm TV bench and still be able to close the front door.

My quick solution would be to cut out a piece of the back panel the size of the receiver.

Do you think this would endanger the overall stability of the whole TV bench? The TV hangs on the wall, so there isn't really that much weight on the bench (except for the receiver of course)

Thanks for your answers!

I am currently working on a paper for university concerning user community wars against suppliers and therefore would be interested, whether there are (or have been in the past) conflicts between the Community and IKEA.

I recently read an article, that IKEA is not that satisfied about the IKEA Hackers. Do you discuss that conflict or even don't care about it. Or didn't you perceive it!?

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Hi there,
I have just got a FRAMTID HIN4T induction hob and I can't get it to work. When I try to turn it on I turn up the heat control but then after a couple of seconds it flashes 'F', no matter what pan I put on there (or even if I don't put one on).
The people who installed it got rid of the instructions, unfortunately, so I don't know whether this means I'm doing something wrong or it's faulty.
I have deciphered from the foreign language instructions that it means the pans aren't compatible but I've tried all variety of pans and they don't work, and nor does it work without a pan on it.
Any ideas would be most welcome
thanks

Hi!

I have the the issue with one of the drawers hitting the pipes under the sink, and I'm hesitant on cutting it down. Soooo, I'm thinking, why not order shorter slides + sides from cabinetparts.com and be done with it. It only one drawer, so no big deal.

I do however, have a hard time understanding if the Blum sides will fit my Ikea back and bottom. I have no issues with width, so I plan to reuse the back of the Rationell drawer and shorten the wooden bottom to fit new depth of the drawer. Will it work? The Blum parts on website have wooden backing, maybe they changed the locking system at the back of the drawer? And they seem to have only one set of holes, as opposed to Ikea's two (top and bottom, half an inch apart) Anybody has any parts numbers that are compatible with Ikea's?

Hi - I want to install Pax sliding...

Hi - I want to install Pax sliding doors over my closet opening withot the frames, similar to what was done by jfranci3 (http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/ikea-...l-project.html) , but have a few additional questions:

Our closet opening is 73 1/2" wide, and 93 1/2" high. On the left side of the opening, there is only 1 1/2" and on the top there is 2 1/2". I can add backing, but prefer to keep it as open as possible.

Can I use the Ikea Pax 200 cm sliding doors for this? I figure that the door width is 78" x 93", so the height works perfectly (as long as website dimensions are accurate), but the width of the door will overlap the right wall a bit, since I don't have room on the left for overlap (and I can't widen the closet any more), so it'll be offset a bit. I'm OK with that, as I can't figure out a better solution (unless anyone has one?)

Questions
a) I am concerned about installing the track - and wondering if the 2 1/2" width of backing is enough for mounting the track?

b) If you were use a Johnson Hardware system instead of the Ikea track, which one would you use?

c) Do the door guides work well? I don't want the doors to 'flap'.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
