I was in the Ikea store in Milan...

I was in the Ikea store in Milan today. The old catalogues are still available as the new one is not delivered for a week. I was trying to buy a wardrobe using the PAX planner tool. When you print out your customization, it gives you a list of the components, where you can find it and their prices. I was surprised to see some of the price increases of the wardrobe components. I'll give just one example. The wardrobe rail (50 cm lenght). Former price EUR 2.50; current price EUR 4.00. That is a 60% increase!! I was quite shocked, but still it is a necessary component of the wardrobe and a low value item. The thing that prompted me to search out this forum was the banner I just saw on the Ikea Italy website "New Catalogue - out 23 August - always lower prices!". That really just made me shudder in disgust that Ikea is now a marketing company. I find it gross and I think that it is ok to increase prices, please just don't abuse your customer's trust. Also after 4 hours in the store using the planner tool, I find out that the said wardrobe is not available for a month. And finally, why are the wardrobes only available in 35 or 58 cm depth?? The 51 cm depth was perfect and the 35cm is a joke. I won't be going back to Ikea.

The products are decent, but if you get in a jam don't expect customer service to help you.

In our last call with them after disputing the delivery of a wrong product, they ended by saying 'IKEA is right' and then hung up on us.

We have had to escalate to Senior Management. Apparently you can reach them by emailing -

firstname(dot)lastname @memo.ikea.com

Also found this article by an ex-employee of 20 years. WOW!!!:yikes:
