New thread ... as usual, posts are relevant only to when they were posted, so don't wonder why months later that a deal I mentioned is no longer there.

Anyways, as of last night, a Datid Pro D51, currently at $959, possibly less if you ask nicely because it's actually been there for more than a few days now. Brand new and on the palette , but dented on the right side bottom (not visible when installed) and with two minor ones on the front-bottom panel.

horizontal w/ Avsikt update....

they are available! at least in...

they are available! at least in birch. yes, that's right, horizontals are now available in birch!

so, if you order a horizontal in birch, you are guaranteed to get the part needed to use the avsikt door.

white may be more tricky. according to the information i've been given you need a box with a data stamp of 0935 or later, though the birch cabinets i got were stamped 0934.

do not rely on getting them in white, simply because you told the ikea kitchen person that you want horizontals with avsikt doors. you have to tell the warehouse people to look for the date stamp.

good luck!

2 weeks ago I've bought a Melbu...

2 weeks ago I've bought a Melbu nighstand, which I'm using as a coffee table since it's too large and too tall to actually be considered a nightstand.

Over the course of these 2 weeks I've found out that the glass surface scratches way too easily. I've only put glasses on it, and already I have 2 or 3 long gashes that can be seen easily.

Unfortunately, I didn't inform myself very well on their return policy and didn't keep the cardboard packaging (I have all the components and the instruction manual). I went yesterday to the store with my till receipt and the assembled table (it has some pieces which are held together with double-adhesive pads, and would not risk prying them open) and of course they did not want to take it. I can't believe that they are so stiff for such a cheap item (the packaging). I would gladly accept only 90% refund for lack of packaging.

Right now I have 3 or 4 options for solving this issue

Try to obtain (buy) some "original packaging" and return it

Try to claim warranty for easily scratchable glass

Buy another Melbu nightstand and return the scratched one with the new one's packaging

Live with the equivalent of $70 thrown out the window on a scratchable coffee table

What do you think is my best option?

Very Negative Experience

Paid for delivery and the items...

Paid for delivery and the items were missing key parts. Was told that someone will call me back in a couple of days just to confirm that parts were missing and that delivery of new parts would be a few days after that or, I could drive all the way back to IKEA and exchange the defective item for a new one but there would be no refund on the delivery fee!!!! So to get fast service on a return I: (i) payout $50 plus tax for delivery and (ii) pay for gas twice and take my time to return to the store and exchange it myself.

Does that seem like a customer facing organization?

Fun IKEA Road Trip

It had been a year and three...

It had been a year and three months and I was so happy to get my IKEA fix! We drove up to Chicago this week to keep DH company on a business trip. We went to IKEA for 5 hours on Tuesday and 6 hours on Thursday. Woohoo! And at the end of the week the kids were asking to go back again! The restaurant, the escalators, the ball pit on the 3rd floor, Children's IKEA on the 2nd floor, and the spinny flat carts on the first floor were their highlights.

I finally got a MALM dresser that I've wanted for years and an AKURUM cabinet to go over the washing machine in the laundry room. A LACK table to keep my POANGs company, some cool fabric, some light fixtures on clearance (TROSS for $9.99), curtain rods and rings for the older girls room, a DEKA curtain wire with clips for hanging artwork in the younger girls room, another IKEA 365 pot, a flat screen TV hanger UPPLEVA ORMO for $19.99, and a bunch of other stuff!

I had to pass up several great deals in As-is just because they wouldn't fit in the van. There were some outdoor chairs and a bench, $25 and $35 respectively that were awesome. We had thought about bringing the trailer but I'm glad we didn't because it rained almost the whole way there and back!

Anyone else have a great IKEA trip lately?

I am planning my kitchen reno for Jan 2010. But I'd like to take advantage of the sale that's going on. Does anyone know if everything has to be taken along the day you buy, or can we go in and order and PAY and pick up at a later date?
