5 weeks between choosing and installing. I must say it was a hard work but the work is done. A new kitchen was born. Now that everything is installed and We are back to life, I LOVE my new kitchen, it is nice and clean, as I wanted, NO CLUTTER only I am not sure if I should add backsplash. My concern is that it will be too much, too busy but if I will not add the backsplash, will I have water damage on the wall behind the faucet? ….what do you think? Also, I would love to get comments on the kitchen… Thank You all for all Your help.
That is a beautiful kitchen! Very cool and modern. I would suggest possibly a sheet glass backsplash, at least around the wet areas. You can get tempered glass cut to size and either leave it clear or frost or backpaint it. I think it would complement your look perfectly!
If you don't use any backsplash, make sure your paint is a scrubbable, durable finish and that you have used a silicone caulk along the back edge of the countertop where it meets the wall.
I think whether you need a backsplash or not depends a lot on how you use your kitchen, and how fastidious you are about cleaning up after yourself. Drywall with paint on it can stand being splashed now and then, but if you aren't good about wiping up the water (especially at the joint where the countertop meets the wall) then you can definitely get water damage over time.
We finished our kitchen back in January, and have yet to install a backsplash, but we're looking at doing it soon- for functional reasons. I've noticed that after doing dishes, I get water behind the sink and I'm not that great about keeping it cleaned up. (We also have a pretty high-arc faucet, so it will splashes sometimes. )
Some folks like the backsplash to add texture or bling to their kitchen, or visual interest while others (like you and me) worry that it will be visually overwhelming.
If you look at a photos of finished kitchens (like the finished kitchen blog on gardenweb for example) most backsplashes, especially the single color ones, blend right in. Stainless panels, or sheet glass are a simple, functional solution. With your modern kitchen, just a plain single color glass tile in a neutral shade could be nice too.
wow. you're kitchen is ridiculous. i mean that in a good way. wow. how is it that i've spent so much time researching IKEA kitchens & I've never noticed this Sorbo color? Can someone fill me in: is it grey? I can't tell for sure?
congrats on the kitchen, i am just speechless at how gorgeous it is.
sorry, i was drooling & distracted by your kitchen: i meant to say that i agree you should go with the glass backsplash. will complement the kitchen wonderfully. we're doing the same & getting it painted in red to add a splash of color.
wow I am loving it!!!! amazing job!!!!!
I love the look so much.
I say use a glass tile backsplash, maybe something light or maybe even in the greys or the blue greys.
are those the ikea Lansa handles? or did you use another company?
I love your kitchen -- the mix of Abstrakt White and Sorbo grey. Very cool, very modern. Absolutely lovely.
I'm thinking you could also do a 4 or 6" high strip of stainless steel as a backsplash, or use stainless steel tiles. Even just behind the sink. If the caulking is good elsewhere, and the meeting of countertop and wall looks good elsewhere, I don't think you need to put in backsplash everywhere.
That kitchen is FABULOUS!!! Congrats!
I agree, a stainless steel backsplash would be great. I would put it the length of the window. HOWEVER, if you want some color, glass 1x4's would be incredible.

Thank You guys
I am very fanatic when it comes to dirt, and I try to keep the area next to the wall clean of water , only I am not the one cooking but My husband is, so I really need to do something there I know it.
At first We wanted to go with glass backsplash , only glasskoteusa located in CA and they did not have installers in the area.
MY wall is not straight ( We had to cut the wall to install the granite top) And because the glass is tempered it will be a problem and the measurements has to be very accurate, I had about 10 glass installers come to My house and no one wanted to take responsibility (they never heard on glass backsplash).
In any case I feel I am stuck, I am afraid if I go with tiles it will be tooo busy and I really like the clean look....
Yes, the handles are from Ikea,
The Sorbo Grey is beautiful only I was very disappointed when I received it because of the birch trim, I thought it is plain grey, at first I wanted to return it but My husband convinced me it is not that bad.
All and all I am very happy, everything has its own place, nothing on the counter only I am trying to get rid of food flies (have no idea were they came from, I emptied my kitchen 3 times already, cleaned and put everything back thought for a second that they were gone but they come back, it is driving me crazy) ...
Thank You all for all the advises I am now debating between the glass and stainless steel
I came here every night looking for some advises...I thank You all
Your kitchen is really spectacular! I understand that you want to keep a clean look, but you may find that the texture of tile adds an interesting element. Have you thought about stainless tile? Susan Jablon does some, and although it is pricey, if you used it just behind the stove and sink, it might not be too costly for you.
