Faux Tin Backsplash with Stat?

I am hoping to get input on a backsplash. I knew the moment I saw Stat that I had to have the cabinets, and all the other decisions have been pretty easy. Not so much for the backsplash!

I am using Stat cabinets, oak flooring, golden sand granite (though Lowe's and HD may call it something else) and stainless appliances. I don't have a paint color selected yet. I was thinking light green, but now am leaning toward a neutral color to compliment the counter colors, as the kitchen is small and will not have much wall space showing. I am not too worried about paint color right now, but suggestions appreciated

Anyway, on to my questions about the backsplash

I found three "special order" backsplashes I like at Lowe's. They are: cracked copper, bermuda bronze and gold silver. They all compliment the granite, but I worry abou the cracked copper or bermuda bronze being too much or clashing with stainless appliances. Additionally, I am worried about putting faux tin behind the stove.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with either the backsplash roll or even painting textured wallpaper to look like faux tin? DH does not like wallpaper idea, but maybe if I did an excellent job no one would even know! Of course, if I have to spend $100 in paint, I wouldn't save much! I could even possibly get white faux tiles and paint those.

Am I nuts? Should I just buy the special order tiles for $17 each?

I love Stat too! Personally I would look for something that has a more angular pattern: the Stat is very cleanly linear and those curves just don't seem to fit the style. I too would worry about plastic behind the stove.... Have fun!

Re: Faux Tin Backsplash with Stat?

I would definitely worry about a faux tin behind the stove. Why not go with a real metal tile? I did a quick Google search for tin ceiling tiles and the first major company that came up has an awesome selection. Their line of backsplash tiles is 18.5"x 4' so would be very easy to install. And they come in a selection of finishes, several are warm colors that might go nicely with your counters and floor. The 4' long piece is about $70 so the price is comparable or better than what you are considering. And they have some more geometric designs that might go better with Stat.

That company is Classic Ceilings but there were lots more results in that Google search. I have never bought this kind of product so I have no experience with any of the companies.

Want to see one that's done? Mine is real tin from American Tin Ceilings (google it for web address). It was $5 a square foot, super easy to put up, and we love love love it. Here are the pics. Note: The floor is now light cherry hardwood:

We love love love it. We've had it for about 2.5 years. Easy peasy.

The company is great. They'll send you a sample pack for like $10. If you have any questions, let me know.

Re: Faux Tin Backsplash with Stat?

NBeth and Woodswell: You make great points. I think I was concentrating too much on a color match and not looking at patterns. I will definitely be using real tin. I want the backsplash to compliment the cabinets and countertops, not be the focus of the kitchen.

Kissacs: Your kitchen is beautiful! American Tin Ceilings has so many great color choices. I think I will be ordering a sample pack. Did you use tin snips to cut out the area around the outlets? Did you attach it with Liquid Nails or with real nails?

Thanks!

Re: Faux Tin Backsplash with Stat?

Sorry I was away so long. I was on vacation. Anyway, yes...you use tinsnips to cut around the outlets. It's the hardest part of the install. We used a combination of liquid nails and regular nails. The corners have tiny copper nails (the only ones we could find in copper) and there is liquid nails all around the back. The tiny copper nails mostly held it in place til the liquid nails dries. It's really easy to do. We did ours in an afternoon.
