On one side of my kitchen I have a large opening that looks down into the family room. The only wall suitable for a backsplash on that wall is behind the range hood. The question is how high should I take the tile, just up to the bottom of the hood or right up on the wall. My stove is also basically in a corner. I know this not ideal but there is no place else for it. For practicality reasons this area should also be tiled, but how, with the same tile? If I go all the way to the ceiling on the stove wall would I have to there too. I know there is no one right answer but what would you do?

I like this idea for behind the hood:

This is what my quirky corner looks like.

imo you don't need a backsplash with a freestanding range unless you really want one or are really a messy cook

of course i am a paint lover, so i get a bit sick of backsplashes, but that might just be me

I'd go up to the first jog in the wall, and straight across onto the adjacent wall at the same height.

From the state of the walls around my stove I will need a backsplash and besides needing it I think the addition of another texture will help the room look more finished.

I like the idea of going to the first jog, will have to mock that up and see if I like it in real life.

Anybody else have an opinion?

Are you going to have a hood and/or cabinets over your stove?
