I'm looking to install a Rohl/Shaws 36"X 18" sink on a DOMJO double bowl sink base cabinet. The Shaw's 3618 sink can vary +/- 2% in size (.72 inches). What can I do to address any variations in size? Also the sink weight about 125 pounds, so I think I'll need to reinforce the base cabinet to support the weight. Has anyone ever done this before?
I would had purchased the DOMSJÖ double bowl sink but I was told that the drain holes are too small to support most disposals.
I don't know of anyone having any trouble with a disposal fitting in a Dosmjo sink. I believe the fitting is the same as any other sink...it's being discussed on another thread as well: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/view_...o=15551#p15551
If the Domsjo will suit your needs otherwise, I'd pocket the change and buy a nicer range! But that's me...

It was the IKEA sales person at the East Palo Alto store that told me about the DOMSJO sink issue with garbage disposals. Apparently they've had several customers who've experienced problems with installing garbage disposals on that particular model of sink.
I've already committed to getting a Rohl/Shaws fireclay sink. Of course it needed a special flange to install a garbage disposal but at least I'm sure it will work. It's 125 pounds though so I probably will have to reinforce the cabinet.
Dennis,
I'm not positive, but I think pickles_ca used a (non-Ikea) fireclay, apron-front sink in an Ikea cabinet. You might try sending her a private message and asking how she did it. I'm pretty sure you'll have to reinforce the cabinet somehow -- while the double Domsjo weighs just as much, it's designed to rest on the adjacent countertops (unlike most apron front sinks, which are undermounted).
I think Domsjo is 130 pounds so from a weight standpoint, I think you should be ok. BUT, you'll probably have to provide support for the sink from a holding standpoint. I think I've seen people support that sink by basically building a shelf underneath it. You could do this with regular base cabinet shelves (or plywood if you prefer), and some cleats on the sidewalls for support. Or you could just use some cleats underneath the bottom of the sides of the sink. Either way, you're going to want to provide the support on the sides of the sinkbase.
For the variations in size, you'd probably want to get a cover panel for the door style that you're using, scribe it to fit your sink shape, then attach it to the front of the sink, around the apron of the sink. Then the counter goes on top, I assume.
Eh?
