Well, for starters, the other one had some crazy non-intuitive web address -- it was hosted through my DSL provider, and it was cheap, and simple. That one launched in April, but was quickly outgrown, both in terms of capacity and of function. There were no forums available, for instance. It was also on a WYSIWYG development platform that became developer hostile pretty quickly. It was pretty quick and easy to make updates, which I did almost daily, but it was severely limiting in regard to what I could do.
This site was launched in June/July of this year and has grown quickly. My development tools are keeping pace (if my abilities aren't!) and adding the Google ads at the bottom of theFansite pages has helped to offset the cost (web hosting, domain name registration, forum hosting, support and maintenance, etc.) of running the site. It's more expensive than the old site, but more useful, I think. It is a lot more time consuming to make updates, but ultimately, we're better off because I have the flexibility to design things any way we like. I'm much less limited (again, only by my skill, time and motivation levels!).
If you never saw the old site, don't worry--you didn't miss anything. Everything that was there is here...and then some. Thanks for your continued support!
Susan
