I have been sitting here for over an hour playing and playing with the planner and getting frustrated.
Here is the scoop - currently have a cold cellar that I am going to tear out and create a bigger laundry area. We are a family of five with lots of laundry. Last year I started sorting using laundry bins - whites, darks, reds, colours, dress, towels, linen and would do the load when they were full. So that being said that system works really great and trying to encorporate into the design. I also want to have at least six baskets for finished laundry as well as a tall pantry / cabinet to hold beach towels and extra blankets and linens as my linen cupboard is so small. I also have to have an upright freezer that we will be purchasing and the ironing board in the 18" drawer and a large space for folding and folding and folding...
We just purchased a new front loader washer and dryer and want my laundry room / storage to be pretty as I spend far too much time in there. I am still trying to figure out our renovation with the kitchen addition and decided this would be the best new project....
So here is my inspiration laundry room / mud room photos- would love a combo of both:
Do you think it is possible to have all my wants and needs in this space??? How can I do it all - oh the other thing - I really hate corner cupboards - but if that is the only way I will have to live with it.
YOu will see a short wall between D & A - that is actually an open space - the back of my furnace and water heater - the window is also my fuse panel box.
I was thinking for wall A to have
dh
custom built the folding table and shelf for the finished laundry (awaiting the kids to come and get their own laundry) and possibly using these as my sort bins.....

Thanks for any and all input - maybe I am just too stressed out or being a perfectionist or maybe too tired or PMS to be able to figure this one out???
Thanks so much,
Greatly appreciated.
Debbie
PS: Sorry this is soooooooo long!!

Oh I love LOVE LOVE the laundry hampers - truly stunning.....and if I could get
dh
to make them we could have them bigger......
I love the corner idea and will probably use it in our future kitchen - but for laundry they are way way too small.....three boys worth of laundry is HUGE...I usually only do it once or twice a week - sometimes less often when time permits so it does multiply rather quickly.....and hubby has his dress work clothes and then play clothes in the garage almost every evening....
Thanks again

I've been doing lots of thinking about what to do to our laundry dungeon in the "will it ever happen?" remodel. Maybe some of my ideas will help you.
I have a system that works well for my family of 4. We have a 3 bag sorter we keep on the bedroom level, and my kids are trained to sort the laundry as (when) they put it in the hamper (
DH
may never learn). The bags on this sorter (a discontinued Michael Graves for Target one) lift out easily, so when a bag gets full, I take it to the dungeon and wash the contents.
Then, when the system is working, I sort the clean clothing into baskets, one for each kid, one for my DH and me, and one for household items. Theoretically, everyone takes their basket, folds and puts their stuff away, and returns the basket to the dungeon. Well, it works about 25% of the time.
What I'll want in my new laundry room is shelf space to put the baskets (or piles of clean laundry), close enough to the dryer that I can stay in one place and toss the clothing into the baskets. I may invest in a lot of wire shelving, as the laundry room would be where I store the 36 rolls of toilet paper, the case of tissue boxes, etc., that I get on my Costco runs. Some nice paint on the walls (sky blue with clouds?) and rubber matting on the concrete slab, and I'll be happy. I don't need a home dec finish on the laundry room, just a space that I don't shudder to walk in to.
[Seriously ... the current dungeon is tiny, with old rusty metal cabinets painted mustard yellow, bright red walls and plumbing pipe, unpainted peg board, and a door to the outside with a huge doggie door — the dungeon is freezing in the winter. I'd take a photo, but the lens on my camera might break.]
Oh, and a laundry sink. A nice big one, where I can wash paint brushes, trash cans, or set up a fabric dyeing project.
