We just stopped in at the Seattle Ikea, and liked the Ulriksal styling. My wife questions whether the fluted pattern would be harder to keep clean than flat styles. She is also concerned that the raised flutes might scratch easier than flat styles.
Wewere thinking of mixing unfluted smallerdrawers and doorsfrom the otheroak collection (which uses the same cover panels- Tidaholm? ). We like the flutes on large surfaces, but not on small ones.
I think carobin used ULRIKSDAL? I like the fluted look too, though I think I like the bigger flutes of the RAMDALA, and I really like the idea of mixing fluted with non-fluted, though I imagine the placing of the various elements could get tricky. I also like the TIDAHOLM, nice joinery!
I can see your wife's concern with the cleaning though... Toothbrush and a vacuum maybe?
Hopefully someone that has it can chime in with a real-world viewpoint...
James

I thought about the same issue with the Ulriksal. (which I like better than the "wide wale" version. But it's all personal preference. They are all nice for one reason or another.)
We currently have white cabinets (pre-remodel) and judging by what seems to show dirt ,dribblings, marks and/or dents that require the most constant cleaning.....that would be the cabinet doors under the sink and the edges/lip of the upper cabs nearest the sink where we lift them open instead of using the handles).
Maybe mix and match different doors, like the stainless steel ones by the sink? or glass uppers? Could add visual interest and be easier to clean. Though there is a varnish coat on the Ulriksdal, so unless you are using a scuffing pad or abrasive cleanser to clean with...shouldn't be that much of an issue.
I have a 36" 4-drawer base in my garage - bought it at the As Is room and it has become sort of a workbench as it awaits space in my sewing room. Given that I use it as a base for cutting with my jigsaw, and am often dragging tools around it and leaning things against it, I'm amazed at how durable it is! Not a mark on it so far. The small drawers on mine are smooth, with the corrugation on the large drawers, so it's probably what you would get whether you wanted it that way or not. I bought a Tidaholm door in as is the other day, and it coordinates perfectly. It might be neat to do Ulriksdahl on the base and Tidaholm on the uppers.
I'm 99% confident that Ulriksdal and Tidaholm share the same small drawer front (e.g., for silverware-size drawers), so mixing and matching shouldn't pose too much of a problem other than aesthetic choices.
Wasn't there a poster from Greece -- screenname akin to Ulrik -- who used the Ulriksdal? It might be worth sending a pm and/or posting in his/her thread to see if s/he can chime in on the durability aspect. (Edited to add the link. Word of caution, reading this thread may inspire you to shelve your life and move to Greece stat: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/progr...l-kitchen.html .)
The other thing you could do is "kick the tires," and buy one door. Get it nice and grimy, and report back on your cleaning efforts!

We have Ulriksdal cabinets in our laundry room and they have been very easy to keep clean. In fact, they seem to keep cleaner than the old, and more traditionally styled, cabinets currently in our kitchen. In fact, after toying with the idea of going with walnut cabinets from another vendor, it looks as if we may well be going with Ulriksdal for our kitchen also - it is a better match for the table I have fallen in love with
