Does it make me a wimp that I broke down and hired a painter?
I tried and tried to complete the painting of the inside of the house but the 3 kids (including a toddler and pesky 4yo who NEEDED to help) and the full time job just weren't letting it happen. Being in post renovation financial despair, we have found a great painter who is willing to break the job up into 3 stages over the next 6 months and fit us in between his other jobs.
Re: Does it make me a wimp that I broke down and hired a painter?
I used to love to paint rooms when I first got married and moved into
DH
's house, a run-down former rental that was painted a uniform dingy yellowish-white that I shall call "Nicotine Stain." I've now repainted everything, including 4 rooms that I've repainted twice (that would be a total of 15 rooms painted in less than 3 years!) and I've come to (a) not enjoy it nearly so much; and (b) realize that I'm a woefully sloppy painter--in part because I'm always trying to fit it in between FT job and everything else. If we were to sell the house, I think I would shell out money for a pro to "normalize" the color scheme and cover up all my half-*ss work.
DH definition
DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).

I'm with you. I used to paint all our rooms, but with 2 tinies who want to 'help' it just doesn't happen anymore... Think of it as a break for a few years until they're a little older, then as they get a little more controlled you can show them how to do it properly, and then you've got free labor!
Re: Does it make me a wimp that I broke down and hired a painter?
i think it's a great idea! (coming from a mom who has decided to stop contracting and just concentrate on the painting side of the business.... someone needs to hire painters )
Re: Does it make me a wimp that I broke down and hired a painter?
No. There are two types of projects: perfect, and done. You have to triage certain jobs when you have too much to do. While I regret the ****ty job the drywall guys I hired did, I have to admit that there was no way it would have otherwise been accomplished in any rational time frame if I did it myself. The time/money/ability equation tipped to hiring out, for good or bad.
The only way I got any open room painted when my kids were that young was by sending them to Grandma for a couple of days, so safety and sanity are also important considerations.
Re: Does it make me a wimp that I broke down and hired a painter?
Definitely not a wimp. I do painting, but I don't do much when it comes to landscaping. It's all about what's worth it to you. It was so worth it to get someone else to spread out 3 truckloads of topsoil instead of me doing it. For you, it's worth it to have someone else paint. I say, go for it!
Re: Does it make me a wimp that I broke down and hired a painter?
Definitely not a wimp ... you've prioritized your time ... you've decided what's more valuable to you .... nothing wrong with that!!! Heck - even when the kids are a bit older and able to help ... nothing wrong then with making the same decision....
I know that if I'm going to
DIY
something - including painting - it's going to take me much much longer to get things done. I've got a hallway upstairs where I took down wallpaper over the summer - it's still not re-textured and painted ... partially because I haven't decided on the paint color ... but more so because it's just not high on the list of things to spend my time on ... I think I'll be hiring that out ... simply because I want it to get done!

Practically everyone has hired out for services at one time or another. Eating out means that instead of purchasing/prepping/cooking your food (and cleanup afterwards!), you paid someone else to do so.
So there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, even if it's a task we're capable of doing so ourselves.

Definitely not a wimp!
I took on the job of repainting our 2 bedroom apartment when we first moved inand my brother's apartment as well. I thought it would be fun...
I did finish the project, but it took longer than expected. I would find myself painting at 11-12-1 AM after I cam home from work. After I finished, I vowed never to attempt it again.
The only drawback of not doing it yourself is that you do not always get the job done the way you want it.

Not a wimp, no not at all! A very smart mother, that is what you are. Because, a 4 year old MUST help Mommy paint, and "help" to a 4 year old is a very vague term that usually involves much more work for Mommy...smart lady, hire people to come in while you and the kids are out!
