I was wondering how much would it cost approximately for a plumber to run a line to the stove area where it used to be electric. The gas source is in the garage (water heater uses it) and it is about 25' away, it needs to go up the attic and come down though.
Does that sound like it's going to be hundreds to a thousand dollars in CA labor rate goes..
I actually know how to do it myself but don't you need to apply a permit and have a license to do this?
the new flex gas lines are code approved in most of the NorCal counties. That said, i still wouldn't touch gas (and i'm an installer), leave it to a plumber, it doesn't take much and it sounds like you have adequate working space to snake the lines.
when dealing with permits and gas and/or electricity i find it better/safer/faster to just hire the job out.
but that's me.
I did that and had to pull a permit for the gas line. The fire department likes to be kept apprised of things like gas sources in a house, so they require a permit to record the change. It cost me $50 for the permit, $250 for the gas line fitting and testing, and I also had to add a regular electric outlet for the stove because it needed to be plugged in to run the clock and timer stuff. We had the ceiling and walls open at the time so no demo work was required, that might have added to the cost.
PO
is in NorCal folks, i get a bit skeevy at telling anyone to do their own gas. permitting is more essential here than it is in a lot of the country, as is licensing (the difference between here and Philly is worlds apart). i've seen folks severely penalized when they're caught. and gas is indeed one of those you don't want to screw with.
but, again, just my 2c
PO definitions
PO can mean Pull-Out, Previous Owner (often when stated with vengeful words), and/or Pissed Off.
Hmm, like I said I know how to do it. I can get a permit it's like $50 and sure I wouldn't mind to have an inspector come out to check it,
my question is that it doesn't matter I do it or an actual plumber do it though?

Re: change electric to gas stove? How much?
If you asking from a legal/permit perspective, only your local building code authority can answer that question.
From a work perspective, no, it doesn't matter who does the work until there's a problem - and gas problems are not very forgiving. How's this for a visual?
