I just need to vent here - maybe someone else has had a similar experience and can provide some reassurance.
There was one cabinet frame that was oversold when we got our order - the big over-the-fridge one. Once I got notification that the item was in, it took me about a week of calling various extensions to finally get the thing ordered for shipping.
It arrived today. I could tell when we first started opening it that it was not going to be good. Little chunks of wood were falling out of the corner. Top piece, seriously dinged in the corner, but it would be in the back, so maybe not the end of the world. Side pieces, a little of the same, but would be hidden. Then the bottom piece, at the bottom of the box, totally bent in the corner, cracked in the middle, and busted at the back edge as well. No way to make that one work.
I called IKEA and am expecting a call back within 48 hours (supposedly) to find out about getting a replacement. I'm just worried, those frame boxes have absolutely no protection on the corners or edges. It was delivered by UPS, and was really big and heavy. I'm thinking a replacement would not fare much better unless packaged with some additional protection by IKEA or handled with more care by UPS.
Has anyone had success in getting a frame safely delivered in this manner? I'm thinking I may try to get them to deliver a totally new unit without returning the old one, and maybe between the two I can find enough usable pieces to assemble the thing. |
