does anyone know if the TRETTIOEN lights up in all directions or are they all pointed in one direction? Normally LED light are very directional (they don't need a reflector).

The little strip lights have a clear cover on three sides so light is emitted from sides as well as the front, although the lights themselves are oriented towards the front.

I bought one of each of the pucks and strips to test in the two glass-doored upper cabs we'll be having. Does anyone have an a priori idea of which will be better? One is a 30" cab, the other is a 36" cab...

What other kinds of light do people have and where is it switched?? I may ask this over on THS in lighting.... but the folks here usually have such good ideas!

Lisa,

I did the same and combined two pucks and two strips for above and below cabinet 'night' lights.

If the spot where you'll be installing them will be visible, you may want to go with the pucks. Right now, I have the strips under my wall cabinets and since the light rail is not yet up, I can clearly see the individual LED dot lights. The pucks have a solid opaque edge whereas the strips only have a solid opaque back, the rest is transparent.

FYI, the transformers are the same and I combined two of each on one set.

martine- thanks, yes that does help-- good idea about combining them. I'm hoping that since the door has those brushed glass squares on the front, the actual fixtures won't be too obvious...

I don't think I'll be able to tell for sure until everything is installed though. Did you put your own switches in? Or just use the ones included and put them inside the cabinets in reaching distance?? I haven't figured that part out yet!

The electrician will be here on Thursday, so I'll ask him then...

I actually haven't hardwired mine in yet...the cabinet frames just went up, so I plug them in, but the wires running from the lights to the connector are all hidden behind the cabinets. The 'nook' created because of the rail hanging system is handy!

My intention is to hardwire them, but I will likely use IKEA's switch. There is lots of wire length, so the switch could be hidden behind the light rail, inside a cabinet, lots of places.

Good luck

Another idea: so long as you are careful about installation, if you are putting your LED lights inside cabinets, you can probably use the hanging system holes for running your wires behind the cabinets.

Here's how I would do it:
Two people to install in this case would be a must. Put your light into the cabinet, run the wire out the appropriate hanger hole. Tape your wire inside the cabinet below the hanging hole. Pull the wire coming out the back of the cabinet diagonally to the side of the cabinet, gently until it is taut, and tape it on the outside of the side of the cabinet. This way, you are using the void created by the rail at the top and the lip at the bottom for the wire. By taping your wire taut along the bottom lip of the hanging hole, it won't be in the way of the bolt.

Hang your cabinet, being very careful not to pinch your wire while doing so. Make sure the wires running from your lights are free before you level and finalize the cabinet placement.

Wires can be run horizontally along the bottom lips of the back of the cabinets, and out the small holes in the corners, between the cabinets. This way, the transformer and switch can both be placed under the cabinet, behind the light rail.

Of course, some will prefer to place these inside cabinets. This will require either drilling a much larger hole, or disconnecting the plug wire from the transformer. I haven't opened mine up, so I don't know if it can be done.

In my case, my LED's are on the outside tops and bottoms of cabinets. Some, I ran after the fact, others during installation. The void behind cabinets is very handy. Because of our particular arrangement, we had to drill holes through end panels placed between cabinets, just above the bottom lip. You can see the hole, if you stick your head snug against the wall under the cabinets and look up into that space. My philosophy is if you're doing this, however, you deserve to see whatever you see.
