Cost of building a basic wall?

We're planning out a laundry room remodel, and I've been toying around the idea of moving one wall about a foot to make the laundry room a little bigger, and to put a door in the new wall between the garage and the laundry room. The wall that is there now is not load bearing nor does it have any wires in it.

If I do the work myself, about how much would it cost to build a 12-foot long wall?

I can't give you an estimate, but maybe I can help you figure out what it takes to build a wall so you can do some calculations based on costs in your area.

I'm assuming you have 8' ceilings. If they are higher, you might need a bit more material.

1. Studs are 16" OC (on center). How many studs will it take to span 12'? About 10. You'll need a bottom plate and a header so add on 4 more for good measure. Oh, and nails to put it all together.
2. Drywall comes in 4'x8' sheets. You'll need 6 (3 for each side). Don't forget the screws, tape, mud, and sand paper.
3. Doors cost anywhere from $15 for a cheap hollow core to $$. Don't forget the hardware, handle, and trim.
4. Paint
5. Is your floor going to be affected by moving the wall? If so, will you have to patch/repair/replace?

Not sure if that helps.

That helps a lot. Knowing the quantities helps. I've been able to find prices for framing lumber and doors, but not for drywall.

The wall that I'm moving was built by a previous owner to carve out a laundry space in the back of the garage. The floor is concrete and we'll install vinyl over the concrete in the laundry room area once the wall is moved, so that's not an issue.

We'll be using Arlig white cabinets and a Pragel countertop in the laundry room, so I'll be sure to post photos as we move along.

You might have to patch the ceiling, too.

It should cost no more than 100 dollars including paint, moulding, etc but putting in a door does not sound like a job for a newbie. Plus you'll also need the proper tools. That'll cost much more money than your remodel.

You will need to double up the studs on either side of the door plus a header. You will also need fire blocks between the studs in a few spots. So better add in about 5 or 6 more studs. To save yourself a lot of work purchase a prehung door.
