Gap between wall and door molding - what to fill it with...

OK...so it's been 6 months since we finished the kitchen and it's time to get back and finish all those niggling little details we just didn't get time for.

We have a gap between the wall and the door molding. What do I fill it with? I think that the old door molding was thicker than the new which is why we're seeing this gap.

Also, for some reason unclear to me, DH and my BIL ended the backsplash with the end of the upper cabinet. That would be ok except that the slice of wall that remains looks to me like we ran out of tile and not like we purposely meant to end the backsplash where we did. It kinda bugs me. So, I need to take out a column of tile and replace it. BUT...how do I get the current tiles out of there with as minimal damage as possible?

You could use paintable caulk for the door molding. For the tile...that's risky business. It is possible it might come off easily since it's relatively newly installed, but possibly (most likely) removing it will cause wall damage which you will then need to repair. Could you maybe use some other sort of trim there instead?
