I'm sure you all are tired of seeing my breakfast room by now, but I just have to show it again.

I'm still looking for an overhead light for well, overhead. Tigger, in a loverly gesture, bought me a stained glass light a while ago at an auction. It has tulips on it, which I love, but I just can't picture it in the breakfast room. I think that's contributed to the lack of forward progress on picking a light and getting it hung. The other issue is the fact that we don't have a switch, but with remote controlled lighting, I think we've got that covered. We need adjustable height and/or a track with varying height/direction spots and pendants as our island is movable.

Anyway, I really loved the look, and functionality, of the adjustable pendants that were so popular at Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel and the like last year. You know the one I'm talking about...they look like this one:

But the price is quite much (even on sale at $149), and they only have yellow and blue left. I just saw this one on IKEA's site:

At $19.99, the price is right, but is the look? Too modern/contempo? It would be hung in the center of the ceiling, approximately over the center of the island.

Thoughts? Maybe I need to look more at track systems and bite the bullet on the price...

I'll never get tired of looking at your breakfast room. It's truly lovely!

I would go for a more classic style, such as a schoolhouse or 30's style. I am not a big fan of looking up at an exposed bulb, but that's just my little quirk. Here's some examples I found that I think would be great:

This one is $50 at Lamps Plus. It comes in a shiny chrome finish as well.

This one is $70

$80

I love this one, not sure if it is your style or not ($150):

$70

But this is the one I would like to see most over your beautiful island ($104)

Thanks eva! I love that last one as well...the problem is that I need it to be adjustable because we move the island around. The other major thought that I'd had was to put in a track system, with spots to highlight my whiteware collection and the glass cabinet over the sink, a flood for the kids' flip-up/down table, and a pendant for over the island. If I got all that functionality out of it, I could live with the fact that the pendant wouldn't be the perfect height some of the time. (Tigger will learn to duck, right?) But not if I have just one light. If I have just one light, then it has to suit me perfectly. How's that for stubborn and demanding?

I guess I should look more closely at IKEA's track light offerings. Does anyone know if they have one that accepts multiple types of heads (i.e. pendants, spots, floods)?

Adjustable in what way? Could you rig a hook and use the chain part to raise and lower it?

IKEA has a new track system that looks like it takes spots and pendants. The system is called KRAMARE and the pendants they show with it are called PABO.

KRAMARE:

PABO

Susan, why not flush or stem mount a schoolhouse light? I have a flush-mount schoolhouse in my breakfast room that I got for $30 at a lighting sale. It lights the whole room - - no need for it to hang.

Got a pic? I guess I'm just fixated on the pendant because I like the looks of it. Convince me that a flushmount can look good, Paige. I've got flush mount fixtures elsewhere in the house, and I actually have a spare in the basement that matches all the others. Boy, that solution sure would make Tigger happy.
