Kitchen Event? - now or wait?
First of all, I saw that there's the current Kitchen event going on right now which is free delivery if you purchase 3 appliances and/or 24 months no interest if you spend $2,500+. The September/October in store circular for the Twin Cities mentioned a sale from Oct. 30 - Nov 3, but I was wondering if this was a misprint, or this will be coming.
I guess what I am wondering is when is the best time to buy. Or what has been the "best" sale IKEA has offered? I've heard of 10% off or a gift card worth 10% of your purchase. And when do these sales normally occur? And did last year's Black Friday event of 10% off include Kitchen?
Yesterday I found out I'm gluten intolerant, and it appears I have several other food allergies, hence I will be cooking a heck of a lot more meals. My mother-in-law does not like IKEA (and then of course, does not like IKEA kitchens, but I'm trying to work with her on that). My current kitchen has a terrible layout and no counter space, but it does have a lot of open space and potential if I remove soffiets and a non-load bearing look thru wall/window.
If any sales are coming soon, I think that would help sell the idea, and I would hate to buy a kitchen and find out later if I would have waited longer, I could have gotten a discount.
We took advantage of a promotion last year in November where I think you got 10% in gift cards for a purchase of over $2500. They also had the ikea credit card/no interest option. Then, a few months later, if I recall correctly, they came out with the 3 appliance offer. It looks like Ikea may have resurrected the credit card and appliance deals, but not the 10% deal for this year?
I must be missing the connection between your mil's opinions and what you decide to do with your kitchen? However, if keeping family accord means getting her approval of your kitchen design, point her in the direction of the threads here that discuss the Consumer Reports rankings of the cabinets and hardware; show her the fabulously beautiful and functional kitchens that people on this site have created; and then show her the money that you'll be able to save with an Ikea kitchen.

My mil lives nearby and has really help us out. We've only been married a year and we've sadly both been sick this year. My husband is Type I Diabetic, and lived at home until we got married and we're still trying to find out what's wrong with me. My husband had a reaction to a new pump and had to stay at home for 3 weeks and she stayed and made the meals.
So right now it seems like her opinion is carrying some weight, at least with my husband. So if I convince him and ease her into the idea, I think it will happen. I think the biggest deal is she's scared of resale value and the fact that there won't be any dovetail drawers.
I hope that 10% sale comes back. And I wonder if we would do that financing deal, or just take money out of sales to pay up front.
IKEA sales vary from state to state as do the timings of their sales. I took advantage of the 10% in a gift card offer if 2 appliances were purchased (offer ended at the end of April). I've heard of other offers but nothing is certain.
Definately point your MIL to the 25 yr warranty that IKEA offers on kitchen cabinets. Also mention that IKEA's kitchen scored higher than Kraftmaid cabinetry.
Wishing you a speedy diagnosis and quick recovery as well.
Be sure to sign up for the IKEA newsletters and notification of events - then you will hear about things as soon as they are offered. I just got one yesterday for something at the Atlanta store but deleted it since I wasn't looking for anything.
At first some of the people in my life were resistant to IKEA cabinets, but now that they have seen them in person, they are all impressed. The drawer hardware is great and the doors (Tidahom and Stat) are really nice.
Even if you are only handy enough to wield a screwdriver, you can assemble your own cabinets and save a lot of money on your kitchen. Your MIL should appreciate that.
Last year the kitchen promotion was a 10% gift card or 12 months interest free on an IKEA credit card. It was originally scheduled to end in November, and then the last week of the sale they extended it another month into December.
We were all set to pay cash but ended up going with the interest free deal instead which freed up a lot of cash for other stuff. We are on schedule to have it paid off by the time the interest kicks in but boy, it would have been nice to have that extra year that they are offering this time!

Re: Kitchen Event? - now or wait?
There is a sale going on right now, the $2500 purchase one the IKEA credit card is interest free for 24 months. We don't normally do kitchen events like this, so I don't know if waiting is a good idea. This only comes around ever 12-18 months so it'll come around again, but not any time soon.
