CFL Recycling at IKEA Questions
I need your help!
I am interested in setting up a local recycling program for CFLs since I do not live close to an IKEA store. I live in Panama City, FL, where the only available recycling facility for CFLs is 30 miles from the downtown. I would like to encourage local retailers to host collection bins for CFLs in their stores like they have in IKEA stores. Since CFLs contain mercury, it is important that CFL recycling bins be safe. Could you please tell me how IKEA's CFL recycling bins are designed (I've never seen one!) or whom they purchase them from? How do they keep customers in the store safe from mercury exposure? Also, how do they setup transport of the items to a hazardous waste facility? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated! I've tried to get answers from IKEA over the phone and e-mail but no luck yet....
Thanks,
Dan Scollan
