I wrote about this in another post but Susan asked me to elaborate.
Over a month ago, I noticed one of the doors on our corner base cabinet was peeling (installed 6/07 not next to water source or heat).
I detached the doors and brought them to one of the local Ikea's (yes, I'm one of the lucky one's to have two stores within 30 minutes). The mistake I made was that I ordered the bulk of my cabinets from the Carson store and I tried to do the return at the Burbank store.
The returns manager (or whatever her title was) told me that no, under no circumstances would they allow me to return the damaged door to their store since I purchased it at Carson. Just then, another employee came up to speak with her. I recognized his name as possibly the kitchen expeditor that I spoke with for after sales addtions. He recognized my name also. I explained my situation to him and he said he would see what he could do. He called the Carson store and worked out some sort of arrangement to get my replacement doors ordered. I was quite relieved by this as I would have had to drive to Carson, return the doors and just place the order there, leaving with no doors. End of story, not so fast...
Well, that was Jan. 4th and I still don't have the new doors installed. The replacement doors showed up (after several phone calls) on Jan. 31st. I took them out of the box and started to install them and noticed that on the top edge of one of the doors, there was a crack or split in the finish. I called the Carson store and left a message for the appropriate person and I finally spoke with her around Feb. 6th. She said I didn't have to return the damaged doors and she would send out a new door set. I am still waiting... I'm trying to be patient but am not enjoying the "unfinished" look in my kitchen.
I'm hoping for a happy ending to this dilema as I love the look and function of my Ikea kitchen.
Liz - I know it's hard to wait but I'm so glad to hear that they replaced the doors without giving you grief. A relief to know the warranty is good, so thanks for posting!
Kathy
Ugh, Liz, I understand how the waiting would be a pain. To make it a little more tolerable, could you install the door with the split finish so at least you've got a door on that cabinet. Given how quickly the hinges attach and dettach, it might at least make you feel better while you wait!
Thanks Madeline,
Nice to hear from you. I think I'm going to install the damaged door today, I can't stand looking at the gaping hole any more!
Hope all is well with you.

Hopefully you installed the damaged door Liz. Your beautiful kitchen will appreciate it.
It's nice to hear from you too. We miss you around here.
I tried to install the damaged door the other day but am having trouble. I can't get the hinges to seat. I started another thread on this and was hoping to get a response but none so far. So, no doors installed yet.
Our cousin from Stockholm has been visiting this weekend so we've been pretty busy with him. Maybe my new doors will arrive and the installers can worry about it.
So I am not the only one who has had this problem with the Lidingo doors? Liz, I have it, too. I posted this on garden web last week, and EvaPerconti suggested I post here instead. The paint is cracked and peeling along the top edge of the cabinet doors.
These cabinets were installed in August 2006 by an Ikea certified kitchen installer. I noticed the damage to the paint a few months ago and filed a customer service claim with Ikea in Jan 2008. When I took the doors into the Ikea store for examination, I was told that I could "return" the doors and they would give me 30% of my purchase price back, or they could give me the exact same doors as a replacement. I asked for the replacement, but none are being fabricated or are in the warehouse, so they can't place an order. I was directed to call the main customer service line every 2 weeks until these doors are available, and then come back and place the order.
These cabinet doors are from the sink base cabinet, and I expected that Ikea would blame it on water damage, which they did. If water is what caused it, then it takes very little water to damage these doors. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets should be able to handle incidental drops of water for many years without sustaining damage.
So now I wonder what I should do. The options that I can think of are:
a) Jump through the Ikea hoops to get replacement Lidingo doors and wonder if they will also crack and peel in 1.5 years.
b) Choose some different Ikea doors for the sink base, maybe one of the white foil doors instead of painted doors, or the stainless steel door. Maybe these would last longer.
c) Buy similar white doors from another cabinet maker. I have had white thermofoil cabinets by Diamond in one bathroom for 6 years, and they still look like new.
d) Repair or repaint the Lidingo doors that I have. Could I add a moisture barrier of some kind?
I would appreciate any suggestions. I really like my kitchen and the Ikea cabinets, but this issue has disapppointed me. I would like to resolve it and forget about it for 20 years or so!
Thank you so much!
You might check with the Burbank store: the online check says they have both 15x24 doors and 18x24 doors in stock. If true, that would make a lie of what you were told re. production. You could ask for Ikea credit and then buy at Burbank. Doesn't make sense that they're not making these....
Tons of people have various Ikea doors with this finish and no trouble for many years, but a particular batch could certainly be bad if there was a production problem. I would think a new batch would not have the same problem. Definitely hold Ikea's feet to the fire to get replacements.
I just had the base corner cabinet doors replaced by the Carson Ikea. They were not near water. I also ordered another size door which was readily available. That sounds odd to me that they are not producing those sink cabinet doors?
I don't think an occasional water drip on your cabinets caused that peeling. I think the finish was not sealed properly or something!
I was in contact with a really great person in the Carson store, her name was Irene.
Her contact information is:

She was really nice and helpful with my situation. I do recommend picking up the doors at the store as they tried to deliver mine UPS and they were really damaged (twice). Mention to her that you got her name from another IKEA fans member as I did talk about the site with her.
