Actually began last night, but the painting is done (I ended up repainting the entire kitchen because we HATED the finished color), hood is installed, stove being delivered today and installed tomorrow (it weighs 585 pounds!), and carpenter begins installing cabinets today.

I'm working on my first corner cabinet (have two) and sink cabinet.

Hurray!!!!!

(Just had to share)

Was it the lime green that you hated? What did you end up going with?

Chabuchie,

The lime we chose was waaaaay too electric once we started painting the coral accent wall - it was beginning to look a bit like PeeWee's Playhouse meets Miami Vice, and NOT in a nice way (WOULD there be a nice way for those two to meet??? Never mind.)

Anyway - we stayed with green - I took a throw pillow from our living room to the store and chose a green to blend with it... it's more muted down with some grey, has more yellow in it, but you still get the "lime" feeling when you walk in. It's yummy-luscious now, and looks great with the blue doors.

Now we're rethinking the accent wall. That wall is actually in the front hall, at the entrance to the kitchen, and the front hall is mango with offwhite trim. Our living room, which you see also from the front hall, is mango with camel and green and red accents (Pic below) so I'm trying to find something to bridge the green and blue to the mango and living room.

Wheeeeeeeeee!!!

Old front hall - the bench and mirror are on the wall that has been shortened to move the door to the kitchen. The wall where the mirror is is the accent wall we're trying to find a color for. Where the coats are hanging will be a stub wall then Applaud blue/grey cabinets, floor to ceiling.

(Anyone want a HUGE mirror and custom upholstered bench?)

here's the view of the living room from the front hall, although we have a round drum coffee table and white flokati rug now:

Anyway - we're on the home stretch and soon my living room will look similar to this again, instead of being stacked floor-to-ceiling with cabinet parts and fixtures for the kitchen (including a refrigerator and dishwasher, and flooring in boxes!)

Thanks Stacy and Eva - I do love how it turned out. But that beautiful living room is a distant memory right now - I'll take a few pictures of its condition today and post - it's hilarious! The space where I'm putting together cabinets is ridiculously small - about 5' square in the middle of the room, if that.

Looking at these pictures makes me so sad!!!! My lovely home! (I know, I know - it's NOT a home right now, it's a construction area!)

Stacy - the mirror is HUGE - I'll measure it when I can dig it out from its stashed place behind the couch!

First cabinet is in place - stove was delivered (my DH is drooling right now - it's SO exciting!!), electrician did a partial final so that we at least have our center ceiling fixture on. Toilet was delivered and is sitting in the front hall (of course!), and I'm about to build the sink cabinet. Stove installers coming tomorrow.

Pictures coming soon and I'll repost all this on my progress blog.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, how exciting! I agree -- your living room is lovely. Great architecture! I can't tell you how much I respect your philosophy about respecting the home's architecture while injecting your own style of furnishings. The result is VERY nice!

I can't wait to see the lime green you went with. Have you considered an orange for the accent wall? I had some tangerine accents in my blue and lime kitchen, and they looked great. Unfortunately, they weren't as functional as I'd have liked, so they had to go. But anyway, tangerine is definitely a way to go. My office is near the kitchen and is painted in Fresh Persimmons by American Tradition for Lowes. I think that would look great with lime and blue.

Chabuchie,

Hmmm - that could work - I'll look it up at Lowe's tomorrow.

I'm exhausted - DH is putting together yet another cabinet, but I've been at this (painting, being the GC, etc.) since 7am.

Nighty night.
