Just in the planning stages...Which tall ovencabinet should I chooseto put a 231/2"wide x 23 1/4" tall oven and a 21 1/4" x 11 1/4" microwave (that can be built-in) above it. I can get trim kits for the micro & oven but not sure how much they cover. Does IKEA provide a trim piece for the oven?

IKEA provides what they call an oven panel, it's three feet by eight feet, and you cut the opening to fit around your appliances. You can put trim around this if you like as well. Have you looked at http://www.microtrim.com?

edited to add: the oven cabinets are 30 inches wide, and there are two styles, one with a smaller opening for a single oven and one with an opening for a double oven.

Depending on which height of cabinetry (80" or 88") you should be able to use either the HSOD3080 or HSOD3088 oven cabinet - both allow 40" for the oven installation.

What is the final size of the trim kits?

IKEA provides a 'oven' panel (30x40") to fill the space around the oven. This panel is designed especially for the wall oven install.

Thanks for the reply. We used Microtrim for our previous kitchen that we did but it was a custom kitchen. I don't remember the sizes that they come in or if they offer lots of choices.

I'm still trying to decide where the oven and microwave should go. The sink, dishwasher, gas cooktop and fridge are pretty well set.

Could someone look at my very preliminary designs on Ikea and give me some advice? My user name is cassley61@msn.com and my password is topper2. I have about four different ideas I was working with. Thanks, this website is so helpful!

Some of your designs seem to crowd your doorways a bit. You want at least 36 inches between the corners of the adjacent cabinets.

I think a design with the fridge on the short doorway wall and creating a butler's pantry area in that other corner area would be a really nice layout for you. The fridge would be by itself, but adding a cabinet above and a panel on the side would be nice. That will consolidate your work triangle and allow the pantry area to be accessible without being underfoot. It would be a good place for the microwave as well as dish storage. I added a wine storage tower that could be floor to ceiling at the end there, and you could always put a secondary bev fridge in place of one of the base cabinets.

Here's an overhead view so you can see the opened-up passageways from the doorway areas. The fridge size is 36 inches, and I used a range as a placeholder instead of the cooktop/oven combo.
