Will Kraftmaid Venetia Mirra doors fit on Ikea boxes?
Really love the high-gloss, medium-dark gray cabinets from Kraftmaid's Venetia line in their modern, flat-square, Mirra door style, which incorporate a high-gloss, gray laminate (not a thermafoil). Ikea no longer makes a high-gloss gray Abstrakt, and Kraftmaid Venetia is expensive (about $12K vs. about $4K for Ikea). Reportedly, Ikea dimensions are actually metric, and are not precisely equal to their U.S.-published dimensions. Has anyone here ever tried to attach another manufacturer's door and drawer fronts to Ikea boxes?
I went to lowes (unbelievably bad experience, no knowledgeable kitchen people, had to wait around forever, etc...) no documentation at all to take home on the venetia line.... but I did get a copy of all the door and drawer sizes.
Additionally you can buy just the doors and panels for this line of cabinets. So far in looking over the sizes they do seem to be compatible with the size requirements for Ikea cabs. This line of kraftmaid does use all Blum hardware but unclear if the door hinge hole is drilled in precisely the same spot.
The drawers however are the right heights and widths. Might require very carefull templating work. Not all combinations may be available as there are with using a true Ikea door.
I am going to look into this more carefully. Has anyone actually tried this?
I may buy an ikea hinge and bring home a venetia door to check it out.
Don't have an Ikea real near by so may be a bit. (summer and the new Ikea near the
portland
airport will be nice...)

I am also wondering if I can get a couple of doors in the Venecia line for a bathroom cabinet I have. I can't get the door dimensions of course. Are those listed somewhere I can check out?
After looking at KraftMaid Venicia cabinets today this exact same idea crossed my mind. I haven't gotten a price quote yet, but I have an appointment with a super helpful guy at Lowe's tomorrow to get one. The guy at Expo today took the linear footage of my kitchen, multiplied it by $500, and gave me my estimate, even though I had part numbers for every single cabinet I need from the Venicia line. Of course the sign on the display says the price per sq. ft. varies from $150 to $700 per sq. ft. which means his estimate is totally useless. Their business is to try to push their design services which I am not interested in at all.
By the way, KraftMaid has an awesome site with specs and CAD drawings for all their Venicia cabinets. It requires registration, but it's free. I import the CAD drawings into SketchUp without any problems.
This is what they say in the Construction Information section of the specs site, which gives me the hope that their doors will fit Ikea cabinets:
Quote:
Euro-style frameless cabinetry is constructed using the "32 Millimeter System", meaning all cabinet drillings are 32 millimeters or 1 1/4" apart. This type of construction does not utilize a face frame and thus is commonly called frameless cabinetry.
All Euro-style frameless doors and drawers are full overlay design and decorative hardware is required for door styles that do not have pulls integrated into their design.
Euro-style frameless cabinetry nomenclature is stated in inches, but manufactured in millimeters and cabinetry may be slightly oversized. When considering a Euro-style frameless design, incorporate trimmable fillers, especially when the design requires a snug fit between two walls or in other confined areas.
Example: A W3030 is 30" wide and 30 1/4" tall
Please consult individual cabinet specifications for exact height
Since Euro-style frameless cabinetry utilizes both millimeters and inches, it is helpful to know the conversion from one to the other.
To convert millimeters to inches, divide the total number of millimeters by 25.4. Example: 762 millimeters ÷ by 25.4 = 30 inches
To convert inches to millimeters, multiply the total number of inches by 25.4. Example: 45 inches X 25.4 = 1,143 millimeters
Due to millimeters to inches conversion dimensions have been rounded up to nearest 1/16"
Ikea's Blum hinges - the same as Blum: Compact 33?
Hello - perhaps you all have this information now. I am planning to order my cabinet fronts from Maple Craft Made, but am ordering boxes and hardware from Ikea (including hinges). Maple Craft Made offers a couple standard hinge hole boring options. One says it is compatible with "Blum: 107, 120, 120+, 170, Diagonal 20, 30, 37, 45" hinges. Wondering if anyone knows how similar the Ikea Blum hinges are to standard Blum hinges. And how do I double check that the location of the hinge holes is correct?
