ok, I'm building an oven cabinet for the first time. I figure that the oven panel gives me quite a bit of budge room.
Here's my thought, then the question:
80in oven cab from bottom up:
Deep Drawer
Deep Drawer
Shallow Drawer (these 3 add up to a standard B4D which is 30 high)
built in oven, apx 34inches, i could cut the panel any size i need, heck, i have 58 inches!
by my calculations i could now have 15 in tall doors up top. But i'm wondering if i can mount a horizontal glass door there instead. this cabinet is stand alone, so i don't have to worry about continuity.
any thoughts? I've never done a horizontal cabinet so i'm not positive i can mount it on a standard 30 in wide cabinet....

Blah! You do use both kinds of hinges on the horizontal cabs, and AFAIK, the doors are the same - the cabinets are different (i.e. it's not just a 30" wall cabinet turned on its side) because of the weight-bearing requirements . You just have to drill additional holes -- dang, somewhere around here, we have the directions, cuz I know I had them printed out once. James is going to see if he can get them right quick. Anyway, I'll get him to post back here if he does.
Sorry I can't help more!

But what weight needs to be beared?bored? (what the heck is the way to say it? I don't even know what tense I'm trying to use? Wish I didn't leave my Strunk and White at work).
If it's at the top of a tall oven cab then I think that it should be OK as long as you can make the hinge work on the top. And now that I think about it, it's really just drilling into the top and attaching the clip of the hinge.

No weight needs to be borne here, but on a typical horizontal cabinet, you would expect that people would be putting things in it. In order for it to bear the weight of the stuff, the cabinet SIDES, not the top must bear the weight.
But, this has no bearing in this case because she only wants the door.
And presumably the hinge. Unfortunately, I do believe you have to buy the horizontal cabinet to get the horizontal hinge. One of the very few things that comes as a set only.
Instructions are in...will send to Tigger for posting.

thank you guys so much for weighing in.... i'm wondering if i can use different hinges for this (i've been known to use non-blum hardware, like on my trash pullouts...)
i might buy the horizontal door and see if i can figure it out. i'll buy the 15 x15 too, just in case
the cabinet is recessed into the wall at the end of the galley so i really think it would add some interest to get some glass up there
