I'm planning a trip to Chicago and was wondering which IKEA store to visit. If I had to choose on store to visit, which one should I go to, Bolingbrook or Schaumburg? I know Bolingbrook is newer and smaller, but thats about all I know. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I would do Schaumburg...even though it is not the newest it is the largest IKEA store in the US and because of that they have more selection and stock. We are not talking an ancient store in any case...it has only been there for 8 years. Vivi

Forgot to add..if you can do not go on a week end and do not go just after their new catalog comes out.Those times you will have smaller crowds. I find that early evening is a great time to go. Vivi

Vivi has given you some great suggestions and information. Are you driving a long ways to Chicago? I'm in St. Louis, 5 hrs. away and hoping to make the trip sometime this summer.

I really like Ikea Schaumburg, although I've never been to Bolingbrook. Can't go wrong here... and I actually like the kitchen Ikeans (Jennifer, Diana, David, Anna).

I concur with the others - if you can only visit one, go to Schaumburg. I live closer to the Bolingbrook store and visited the Schaumburg location for the first time two days ago. I was astonished at how much larger it is, and the shopping cart escalator (not present at the Bolingbrook store) is an amazing thing!

Schaumburg IKEA it is! Thanks for all the input. As for the date, we are actually going to visit Chicago during the week. We'll probably get to IKEA on a Wednesday. No way am I going to go in a weekend.

I concur that Schaumburg is the way to go. Bolingbrook is much smaller. Plan to devote most of the day there because it's quite large. There's so much to take in that you might want to take the camera along.

We plan to make the 5 hr. trek there next month.
