well, my recent water issue wouldn't have been helped with the tray. but i'll commiserate here apparently our rental house became rat infested (don't ask) and they chewed through the bottom of our dw tubing. it wasn't caught until the dw had been run 3 TIMES.... more than a 1/2 was still standing there when i was called (a week later) hiding behind the plinth, soaking into my floors. thank goodness they are bamboo....
floors are now dried, dw replaced and rats are gone... good times.

sadly they're leaving next mos. the rats were found as i was cleaning for them to move in. they have been beyond wonderful about the situations, true gems. i miss them already plus they keep the garden better than i ever could have. (we actually think we know how the rats suddenly "appeared" in spite of our having the place sprayed for 4 yrs on a regular schedule....)

I actually put wihte molding and silicon sealant in the edges of the cabinet under my sink. The melamine finish is actually very water resistant as long as its not scratched or damaged - its the edges that are vulnerable to water rot and those "zits" that develop when water gets in.
