That's an AWESOME Program! I wish I was closer to an IKEA myself to pick a couple up. The kids both need desk lamps like this and the colors are fantastic!

That's a very good point. I wonder if you could replace the batteries it comes with with some Sanyo Eneloop NiMH? I love the Eneloop because they hold a charge for waaaaay longer than other rechargeables, after a entire year just sitting on a shelf they still have 1/2 their charge . Makes them a LOT more useful for everyday purposes. We've had great luck using them.

I saw these in the Brooklyn store today. My 24 y/o and my 10 y/o both wanted them. The colors are really nice. We haven't had them for very long so I can't speak of how long they last but I can tell you that they give off a decent amount of light.
On Our First Trip to IKEA, between the two of us, we picked up three of them, Red, Blue, & Yellow. As soon as we were in the car we got them out and were happy to find they already had some charge on them. Since we were going to be on the road for a bit, we placed the solar cells on the dash, up as close to the windshield as we could get them. They didn't get the full recommended length of charge, but I'm pretty sure the 100 miles on a cloudless sunny southern day gave them quite a boost. We've probably gotten about 3 hours use out of them so far. The kids use them at night in the back seat of the car without bothering the driver. The base is heavy enough that it sits great on the seat between the kids. **Added Bonus** A defined this is my space line!
Kymm, congratulaions on your first trip to Ikea and welcome to an addiction that is actually good for you.
I would never have thought of using them in the car. Better yet a simple and useful solution for the 10 y/o and 12 y/o's incessant bickering over "he's/she's in my spot." I'm going to give this a shot and if it works buy a few more.
We've put one on a windowsill in the kids bathroom. It makes a cute nightlight.
I also kept the bag it came in. It's a nice sturdy plastic, and the lamp folds up and goes back in easily. It fits perfect in the trunk organizer (one of those double cube type) when we aren't using it. I'm hoping the bag will help keep the lamp clean during the coming soccer season as well.
