Re: Truly, the breakfast of champions.

The type of yogurt and sweetener you use is entirely your personal choice...I use plain nonfat yogurt and honey myself, but you can certainly use splenda, light yogurt, even flavored yogurt, or leave out sweetener entirely. You could probably even use any kind of milk you wanted...don't know about soy, but someone might try that!

Re: Truly, the breakfast of champions.

Eva, could you tell me how long this keeps for in the fridge? I'll probably be the only one eating it if I make it, and I'm not sure how fast I could go through a batch. I could make a new one every night for the next day, but I prefer making batches for several weeks at a time when I can.

I got a yogurt maker for Christmas, which I have not yet utilized to it's fullest. This may be a great way to get it going again!

I honestly don't know, Emmie...it never lasts too long! At least three or four days for sure...beyond that I can't say. But for one person, a cup of everything would give you a four day supply so that would be a good amount to start with. I make two-cups-of-everything for us and it lasts about three days, with two and sometimes three servings per day.

Re: Truly, the breakfast of champions.

Sorry for replying to a very old thread, but as a European living very close to Switzerland, I feel compelled to add my 2c here :-)

The traditional 'Bircher' muesli (Muesli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) invented by Swiss physicist Bircher-Brenner around 1900 included fruit - originally apples and raisins, but other available food like pears, oranges and banana were quickly added to it.

Important was (and still is) to mix it the day before and let it soak over night - IMO there are not many things more delicious than a properly soaked muesli. It is basically the great-grandfather of today's breakfast cereals

However - actually, dairy is not so good in combination with the rest of it. Nutritional wisdom suggests to replace the milk with fruit juice to make it more easily digestable.

Best regards,
Andy

Re: Truly, the breakfast of champions.

Those are very yummy recipes but knowing myself I would get bored of it within the week. Salmon can be prepared in a number of ways; my personal favourite is honey (salt/pepper) or brown sugar with balsamic vinegar baked for 8-10 minutes. Could add a little thyme as well.

I like the breakfast idea. I usually just have a cup of coffee or nothing at all which is terrible.
