So three of us are going to be splitting a 1 bedroom apartment. The living room will be split in half to create one bedroom. The real bedroom will then be divided to create the other two bedrooms. Our problem was that no more pressurized walls are allowed in NYC. So, this is our solution. If you have any tips, hints or comments, I'd be appreciative.

Each wall will have a wood frame around it to house the top/bottom tracks and also to make up for the height/width difference between the sliding doors and the openings.


This is how it will look from the hallway we're creating to separate the two rooms.

pardon my ignorance, but... what is a "pressurized wall" ?

A semi-permanent wall commonly found in bigger city apartments. It's a sturdy, white wall with a door, etc. They don't damage the floor, ceiling or walls in any way as they rely on tension and pressure to stay up.

They've recently been outlawed in NYC because of their flammability

I assume there's plenty of sources in the NY area for sliding glass (or wood) doors. I've been wondering about replacing a pair of French doors (space-wasting when open) with sliders.

Guys, anyone know of Pressurized wall companies or people who can help make and install them in Washington DC? We are in urgent need of a pressurized wall.
