Modern/Bright/ plus Earthy Accents (Tribal Art, Exhibition Posters, Tapa Cloth, etc.)
Hi all,
I am refurnishing my entire apt (that, thankfully, is small)!
Looking feedback/advice/choices you made for your bedroom and livingroom.
I have ethnic, mid-century, quirky, hand-made, color-saturated taste. MIxing it up is what I love to do!
Living Room products that have caught my eye:
Lillburg--yes, it does look *starter apt* but the seats are deep and comfy; the cushions have great give/resiliency ratio and the birch veneer frame, while a futon-esque, it elegant and spare.
Does anyone have this line?
Ecktorp--it's sturdy and plump. I'm thinking white because it will pop in my space. I'm not too fond of how the slipcover spreads out towards the feet, etc. but I've never had a cloth sofa before and so perhaps I need to get over this.
Any experiences with Ecktorp Blekingne?
Bedroom:
Malm for a full size mattress. Does one just plop a matress on this bad boy? I have one already and will not be buying a replacement form IKEA.
Any input is welcome!
Thanks so much prs

But I'm going to move this thread from introductions to someplace you might get more answers.

Hi and welcome!
I believe you might need the bed slats as well as the Malm frame, but yes, you just plop a mattress on it once it's built. What color are you getting it in?

Tylosand series, Malm, etc.
Hi,
I am thinking about the birch veneer. It really all depends on how much I spend on the sofas. Do you have the Malm? I like it because it's unobtrusive and spare. My bedroom is smallish and oddly shaped (live in in a reconfigured mansion from the turn of the century) so there's that to consider. Oh, and my floors are light colored parquet.
I think the bedroom will be pretty easy to pull together. What's freaking me out is the livingroom.
Now I'm thinking about the Tylosand series in orange: the chaise and the one seater; possibly the ottoman.
Any thoughts here?

I have parquet floors, although my simple starter home is far from a mansion! Birch looks great with them, but it blends well so if you want the bed to pop I'd go with a darker or lighter. Not beech, though, it's horrible on light parquet!
I love the orange Tylosand...have you seen the green Kramfors? Beauty. I think it would fit perfectly with your aesthetic. It doesn't seem to be on the US IKEA site but I know they have it in the stores.
Ektorp to me seems a bit country-ish. We have the Mysinge in chocolate brown that we are using in our guest room as beds.

not a mansion!!!
Dear Diva ( !!!)
My apt. is really a modest one-bedroom--in NYC speak: a junior one bedroom--with two rooms, a kitchen and a teeny-ish bath. So truly, it's not a mansion! It's just carved out of a mansion. There are 13 units in the building. The cool thing is that each one is very different, given that each one occupies a specific footprint of the original one family structure.
Thanks for your feedback! I love the lines you mentioned (although, I'll say that the Kramfors, while gorgeous is not as comfortable as the Tylosand. I've never sat on the Mysinge ... so will have to check that out.
What do you think of the Lillberg? I'm curious .....

I was born in Brooklyn (Bensonhurst), lived there most of my childhood and then spent most of my young adult years in Manhattan. My DH is from Brooklyn, too! We were just back there this past summer, it's changed so very much it's hard to believe. What area are you in?
I think the Liliberg is mid century but much more casual. It says "porch furniture" to me LOL If you're into leather at all the Arild is very nice, a pebbly leather that's warm and not shiny. Very clean lines.
The Mysinge are very flexible, and look and wear well. We have the chocolate brown and they are quite comfortable, although we did add a 1" memory foam topper since we use them as beds too.
