Our Billy story primarily involves longevity - the only modification that we're considering is to add doors to out two existing bookcases, since we've enjoyed them so much!
The life of our two Billys:
Born: Sometime ~1995, with lovely warm birch color and several adjustable shelves.
Purchased: In early 1996, by our friend Anthony, who lovingly shepherded them from Burbank to his student apartment in Pasadena
Sold: 1999, to myself, for $20 each. Survived disassembly and transport in small toyota pickup truck.
Moved: To Massachusetts in 2005, in back of moving truck used for other loads (i.e., we had 3 feet worth of the length) Several pieces of heavy oak furniture were damaged to the point of being trashed during the move. The Billys survived.
Moved: Back to California in 2006, in back of pickup truck. had to poke the longer pieces through the window into the cab.
Moved: To upstate New York in 2007, in same pickup truck, along with 6 cases of wine for our wedding, an angry cat, and way more yarn than I will be able to knit in my lifetime. Most of the yarn also survived both cross-country trips.
