Several years ago I remodeled my kitchen using IKEA cabinets and had wonderful help from ikeafans creating my kitchen layout as well as help making design choices. My kitchen door style is Adel birch (which contrasts really nicely with the logs and does not look ultra modern). I wanted some cabinets with glass doors but just didn't think that the little white bow-ties in the glass could work with my log house. So... all the doors in my kitchen are solid - no glass ... but I still had the desire to have some cabinets with glass doors to show off my collections (pottery, glass, etc).
Enter Billy ... Billy isn't just for books - on one wall I've got 2 31x79 and one 15x79 Billie bookcases (in Birch to complement my Adel Birch kitchen cabinets) ganged together and all with the Billy extension units on top. I used glass shelves instead of the birch and they make a fabulous display case.

In the same room I've also got another 31x79 Billy bookcase (again in birch) which stores my huge collection of cookbooks.

All of my Billys have the Billy Byom birch doors with glass.
My log house is two stories and the ceiling in the downstairs has logs as beams about two feet apart - the logs are varying diameters ... when I measured to see if I could add the Billy extensions I thought I had plenty of room - I did not take each log into account - and was in for a surprise when I tried to put the Billy extensions into place - the first two fit - but the third one would not fit... the third Billy extension had to be modified so that it could fit the space.
I love my Billys ... for storing books and for using as a display case ... I'm always looking for other ways to use them in my home.
