modifying a lack unit

hey all.. i would like to modify the lack unit to something resembling this quick mockup:

i have been reading a little around here but i am not quite sure how to do it. is it easy to move the shelves around on these things? is it possible to make them shorter? i actually wouldn't mind something around 5 feet tall or so.

any advice would be excellenteee

Re: modifying a lack unit

IIRC, the shelves on all the LACK stuff are fixed, not adjustable. It's what makes them sturdy -ish. I would not try and cut them down to be shorter. The fat outside perimeter pieces are not solid but thin mdf with a honeycomb interior except at the joining points and you'd never get it to look right and be stable.
