Help me hack an odd sized desk?

Hi. I have been searching for a desk to use in the tiny tiny reception area of my office. It's miniscule. Can't find the right shape and size anywhere.... even Ikea. So my thought is instead of using regular table top or desk top, I'm thinking maybe I can use a Nexus cabinet door? I am thinking about the Vika Fintorp legs, and it will probably be 24" x 24". Has anyone done anything like this? Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Re: Help me hack an odd sized desk?

24 is the minimum width I would suggest for a desk...smaller than that and you won't be able to sit at it comfortably. Using a door would work, although it would look a little thin IMHO. I'd add a frame under it to beef it up a bit...but then you're talking about basically building a table so you can use any kind of top you want to.

Re: Help me hack an odd sized desk?

For a "desk" that small, think something designed for a laptop, like this:
IKEA | Tables & desks | Computer workstations | DAVE | Laptop table (very cheap, very small) or this (more expensive, bigger, but still small): Amazon.com: Rolling Reading Table, Honey: Office Products

Re: Help me hack an odd sized desk?

Hi,

Thanks NBeth, those desks look cool, but it is actually for an iMac in a massage therapy office. Most of our "office" is in a closet (literally) but in the reception area we need room for a small desk for the computer, CC machine and phone. I may hang a shelf or something for the CC and phone, but the desk is necessary. It probably won't need to be moved. I have a few random old tables, but I want something with a clean look.

I measured and I might be able to go up to 28"-30" so I may be able to use something already made - but I have a drill and I am not afraid to use it...

Re: Help me hack an odd sized desk?

Ah, in that case how about detaching the iMac from its base and mounting to the wall? I've seen it done so I know it works! Then the keyboard can go on another one of those shelves...
