My favorite thing tonight at Ikea was this bench. I don't know how I've missed it before.

It's made up of:
  • 2 30"x15" wall cabinets.
  • 4 15"x15" doors
  • 1 Perfekt cover panel
  • 4 sets of Integral hinges
  • 1 73-1/4" x 25 5/8" beech Pronomen countertop
  • 2 sets of 4 Akurum legs
I couldn't see very well how it was attached in the back to the wall. The entire unit was 61-1/2" widex 14-1/2" deep x 21" high. Love it.

I may have to do something like this for our banquette. This display was priced out at $299 for all the parts in Stat White. We already have 2 extra medium brown cover panels.

I sat on it for a bit and it really was ok for sitting at the table. I wouldn't linger there for days but I wouldn't linger on our current kitchen chairs for days either.

i built a similar bench 3 yrs ago, but because of ikea i was able to angle it to fit my bay window alcove. i left off the feet and put an upholstered top on it. in my current kitchen reno the bench is getting a face-lift, i'm going to put it on 2x4 planks to raise it a bit making the doors easier to open and i'm going to change the fabric and possibly the doors (i'm obsessed!). i'll post pictures when i am done. i have sat on it for a 4-5 hour game with no problem--super comfy!

That's great! I can't wait to see the after pictures! I've recently been wondering if we could do something like that in our dining room without it getting too informal. We don't have an eat in kitchen, and our "breakfast room" is really a clean-up and baking zone rather than an eating area. Our dining room is really our dining room. And having the (almost square at 54"x56") table in the middle of the room really makes it impractical for anything else.

Pondering...

Susan

you could always put it on fancy casters i love ikea that it can be as dressed up or informal as you like. this bench was originally built as a simple and cheap way to gain storage; now i'm ready to make it pretty
