Question Adjustable Height Coffee Table Hack Help

I'm moving into a tiny little 500 sf. apartment and trying to find ways of minimizing the amount of furniture I have. I came across a bunch of adjustable height coffee tables which transform into dining room tables but they all cost an arm and a leg.

So, I was wondering, if anyone has come up with an inexpensive hack? I'm thinking something involving ironing board legs, suction cups and a thick piece of glass...not entirely sure how the whole thing would work.

How about a pedestal table using the adjustable height mechanism in a stool?

This one has a fairly wide range of height adjustability. Unfortunately, the swivel stools and chairs they make don't, or you'd have more options. Not sure how you'd attach it or what table top it would support.

Re: Adjustable Height Coffee Table Hack Help

There used to be a tutorial on the web somewhere (years ago) where wooden crutches were used as adjustable table legs. (Probably can use metal ones too). They're already pre-drilled at 1" increments, and adjustment is just using a wingnut.

Although, if you're not doing the adjustment in a mechanical fashion (like a wench or crank handle) the glass top might be heavy and cumbersome to take on/off betw. adjustments.

My friend once bought a door blank to use as a dining table top. It wasn't very heavy, and easy to move, and plenty big.

While you have the idea, I wouldn't trust an ironing board for a lift mechanism, only because of the weight involved. It's not just the static weight of the table top, but what happens when stuff is put on it, when it's leaned on, bumped, etc.

Perhaps a hydraulic lift table for a base? Omit the handle bar and a repaint, but it's heavy duty enough to work.

I think you're searching in the wrong place. No need to use the floor when you have walls

Here look at this:

Picasa Web Albums - Gianluca - Il pinguino i...

The painting that you see on the wall is in fact my main table.

It has legs that can be unscrewed when they are not needed and then you just have to hang it to the wall.

An artist friend of us made the painting and then we covered thetable with three coats of glazing, the same one you would use for wood floors ( after that it is as if you had poured liquid glass on it) .
