Well, still trying to "Pay it back" to the community. so I'm going to show you how to modify a 30" or 15" high pantry to have lots of drawers, and an ample storage area on top. In our house,. we have two of these in our master bath, storing towels in the top of one, and rollers, etc in the top of the other.

First, some pics:

I'll show the purchasing list for the 15" cabinet. You can do the same with a 30" cabinet, just order all the drawers 30" wide, and TWO doors for the top instead of one.

1 - 15"x88" hich cabinet frame
1 SET 15" x 3 Drawer Fronts only (these come as a set).
3 - 15" shallow drawer fronts
4 - 15" shallow drawer assemblies (the actual drawers)
2 - 15" deep drawer assemblies
1 - 15"x39" door front only
1 PR hinges
1 or 2 packs of 15"x24" shelves (depending on how you configure the top area.

For spacing, you space the bottom of the cabinet just like you would if it were a B3D15 cabinet. This gives you your bottom 3 drawers (instructions will be included in the drawers). For the next 3 drawers, place runners spaced 5 holes apart.

Then add the "support shelf" to the top of the top drawer, which will serve as the botttom of the door unit. Add door and shelves and voila, a crafty modification that required absolutely no custom parts.

Hope you enjoy it!

Geoff

So Geoff, for the sink base did you reduce the depth of the cabinets or did you just pull the pantry forward?

This is great! (another one of those projects that has me thinking "Where could I use this?" since shelves actually work for what I plan to keep in my panty.")

Actually, there are a bunch of people planning to build desks/offices with kitchen cabs. I think your idea would be terrific for office supplies, copy paper etc.

For the vanity, it's a chop-chop job. I had bought the granite first before the cabinets, so I had to cut the cabinets down to fit on a 22" chunk of stone. As you can see, it still BARELY cleared the stone, when you account for the depth of the drawers.

It wasn't as hard as you'd think, but I am rather detailed about that stuff and actually redrilled all the alignment holes in the back, etc.

I love the way it looks though, I like the vanity recessed. The additional space is nice, too. It's amazine what an additional 3" gives you.

What exactly is it that you plan to keep in your panty?

Susan (who is still chuckling, even though I know I shouldn't be...)

didn't mean to be that funny I'm just planning on the basic pantry stuff--pasta, rice, beans, bottles, a million paper towels from costco, some canned goods, etc. (Yeah, I might regret not going w / the tall pullout, but we swapped it for reasons I don't even remember now.) What I meant in the post is that the drawers look so cool, but I don't need any more shallow drawers.

nyc_home -- It was only funny because you typed "panty" instead of "pantry". Cheap humor, I know...it's Monday. I'm sorry it was at your expense. :?

Btw , it would be great if you started a Progress Blog -- are you at that point yet?

Susan
