Is it possible to use different hinges with Billy & Olsbo?
Due to space restrictions and ceiling height, the only TV 'cabinet' I can use is a Billy 80cm wide.
I would like to use two Olsbo doors to hide the TV when not in use , but the hinges that come with the doors only allow the doors to open to about 90 degrees, which means that anyone sitting on the couch opposite has to sit exactly in the middle, otherwise the doors obscure the view of the TV, plus it looks kinda stupid.
I have bought (but am yet to open the packages as I think I may have made a mistake, and my very limited budget doesn't take kindly to mistakes) 4 Integral 153 degree hinges, used in kitchen cabinets (for example with Abstrakt cabinets), - will these work, or work with modification to the Olsbo doors (and if so, how?), or are there other hinges one can buy from somewhere else that would fit Billy/Olsbo, but allow the doors to open to at least 153 degrees (180 degrees would be fantastic), and of course not bang into the doors of the neighbouring Billys?
I don't have any specialised precision equipment if the holes in the doors need to be altered, but anything that can be done with hand tools, silicone, glue etc would be great.
Many thanks.
Re: Is it possible to use different hinges with Billy & Olsbo?
what distances have the holes on the billy shelf from each other (32 mm?)and from the edge (28mm / 37 mm ?)?
what diameter has the big hole in the door (in mm)?
what distance has the big hole to the edge (in mm)?
how much of the shelf's edge is covered by the door (in mm)?
Re: Is it possible to use different hinges with Billy & Olsbo?
Hi Tux,
Thank you for helping me with my problem.
The bottom of one hole to the top of the next is 22mm
The outside edge of the hole to the edge of the bookcase is 35mm
The big hole in the door has a diameter of 25mm
Edge of the big hole to edge of the door is (at its closest point) 5mm
I'm not quite sure what you mean by how much of the shelf's edge is covered by the door - do you mean when the door is open using the supplied Billy hinge? And by shelf might you mean the wall/frame of the bookcase?
I opened one of the Integral hinge packets figuring it might help, so just in case, the hinge's (which, by the way, opens forward and then out) small metal plate section that is screwed into the two holes on the inside of the bookcase fits those holes perfectly.
The circle on the Integra hinge has a diameter of 33-35mm (it is a complex shape, not a simple circle like the Olsbo)
The inside edge of the Intergra circle to the outside edge of the flat plate is 44-45mm (as best as I can measure)
and the inside frame/raised border (no idea what the correct name is) of the Olsbo door is 34mm wide.

I'm very sorry to say your private message never came through (or perhaps went to spam and was automatically deleted), thanks for reposting.
I've just looked at the hinge online, but its opening angle is 120, not enough for what I need it for.
There are other hinges in their brochure that go up to 170 but I'm a hardware novice and have no idea if buying them would be the Ikea mistake all over again.
I posted all of the dimensions for the Billy and Olsbo, but I'll post them again in case something went wrong

The 71T0550 has even only an opening angle of 94°. I didn't read the reason why you want to change the hinges again.
I couldn't find anything suitable. Call Hettich (05223 / 77-0) and ask them, if there is a Topfscharnier with 26 mm Topfdurchmesser and wide angle.
If there is no such hinge and the frame is wide enough, drilling a hole with 35 mm diameter could be a solution.
