A question for anyone who's put together or hacked the PAX LYNGDAL or UGGDAL doors --
I'm thinking of putting together a custom wardrobe that needs to be somewhere between 10-11 feet tall. I love the look of the LYNGDAL and UGGDAL doors, but of course they only come in 79" and 93" models. So the taller one is too short, and the shorter is too tall to be stacked.
However, in looking over the instructions on the doors (the LYNGDAL is the one I've looked at more closely), it looks like the side rail for the door is just a continuous aluminum extrusion, and the top, bottom, and dividers just bolt into it.
My thought is that I could buy two sets of 79" doors, and modify one so it used 2 sections of glass instead of 3. I'd plan on cutting down the side extrusion, then copying the holes such that the bottom piece of the door could be screwed in.
Alternately, I suppose I could join two frames to create a single, tall door. In this case, I might use the UGGDAL frames and replace the glass with something lighter to save weight.
Am I missing something about the way the door frames are constructed that'd make this more difficult than cut-and-drill? It's hard to make assumptions just from looking at the instructions. Obviously this would have to be pretty precise, but it seems like it ought to work.
I'd really appreciate feedback, especially from those who've put together the doors in the past.
