Question Hemnes Shoe Cabinent Mod Suggestions

Hi,

I have one of these: HEMNES Shoe cabinet with 2 compartments - black-brown, 35x50 " - IKEA, the HEMNES Shoe cabinet with 2 compartments, black-brown. It wil fit perfectly in my front area, BUT sadly the legs are not high enough to clear my 100yo house base trim. It affords about 3 inches of trim, I need almost 8-10. Any suggestions on modifying this?

I have thought of adding feet to it, but wanted to see if anyone else had some better ideas.

Thanks.
Dano

Re: Hemnes Shoe Cabinent Mod Suggestions

Welcome to IKEAFANS, Dano.

The piece is designed to sit on the floor, but if you have one of the wood ones (rather than white), you could probably mount the unit to the wall by screwing through the back "stringers" and into studs in your wall. I would do this into 2 studs if it aligns that way, and maybe a total of 6 screws (4 through the top rail, 2 in the bottom) for good measure.

I'd be little more reluctant to do this if your piece is white, because he MDF stringers don't have the same structural integrity that the wood ones do. Plus, white pieces generally weigh more than wood ones, so you have a kind of double whammy there.

Failing that, I guess you could design some feet for it, as long as you do a good job of securing them to the unit.

Whatever you do, make sure you book 'em at the end. (Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.)
