Look at these pics

I would have added a cover panel too.

hmmm. but why not just buy an IKEA entertainment center? They are probably cheaper than the pantry cab . . .

But with locking casters it might make for a good breakfast nook bench...

What do you think would it work?

I've thought about making a rolling bench with the LACK shelving unit.

me too but I really crave additional storage under the bench-

We've been toying with the effective line but this might just work better?

which width does it look like the pantry is? I can't tell.

I'd been thinking about (eventually someday maybe) doing something similar w/ the over refridgerator cabinets, but I like the way the long horizontal door looks.

weight limits?

I'd be concerned about the weight limits for a bench. The TV units are made to hold weight on top and are rated between 155 and 220 lb. I don't think that there is a rating for turning a pantry on its side.

If the Lack unit is made the same as the Lack floating shelves or small tables, I wouldn't put anything heavy on it. They're made of thin mdf with inside corner braces, but for the most part, they're empty space.

I wasn't able to pull up the pix, but you could use a pantry on it's side for an entertainment bench, so long as you increased the number of solidly attached shelves (which would now be vertical braces inside the main frame). The particleboard is 3/4" which is pretty sturdy, and it's what most furniture is made of these days anyways, unless you've got a high-end budget and can go with solid wood.

Our own corner entertainment unit is 5/8" particleboard and supports a 50" DLP TV (weighs about 75 lbs).

I have my tv on a Lack shelving unit...

turned on it's side wtih legs ( i don't remember what kind) on the bottom.

the tv sits on top and the little nooks make great storage for dvd's and such.
