IKEA Kitchen Planning Software

Hi. We are embarking on a kitchen remodel, and I've been using the IKEA kitchen planning software. While I've been successful at getting all the cabinets and counters in, I haven't been able to get an island in there. For some reason I'm unable to drag and drop an island. Has anyone else had problems with this or any suggestions I might try?

Thanks,
Michelle

Re: IKEA Kitchen Planning Software

I had trouble moving one of their whole islands (base cabinets, cover panels all together). It eventually worked.

It's probably easier to move individual cabinets into place. As usual, use the arrow key to frog-march stubborn cabinets.

Thanks for the reply. I still can't get an island to move, so I think I'll try your individual cabinet idea. Is anyone else able to drag and drop an island? Is there a trick to it?

Hi Schmela,

There's no "hidden" function to move the islands, but it can be a bit troublesome at time to time.
First of you need to know that the islands aren't their own specific item. This means that when you drag in and island, you're actually dragging in 4-8 objects at once. This is of course puts a big load on your computer and also moving it around, everything at once, will be a very heavy command for your computer.
Also since the island is a group of existing items, as soon as you click on one of them, the rest will not be selected anymore and will result in you only moving the selected cabinet or cover panel.
You can however make a box around the entire island while holding the left mouse button and select all the items again.

Re: IKEA Kitchen Planning Software

I've found that you need to slow down a bit when dragging the island from the bottom (hold the mouse a little longer than usual - until you see an outline of the island), bring it to the centre of your plan: the island will appear shortly after releasing the mouse button.

Another thought: it might work better under Furnish view than the 3D view.

Re: IKEA Kitchen Planning Software

Yes, this unfortunatly how it works for some. It's a bigg task for the program to collect and put together all the logic and models for a kitchen island. So just be patient and it will work just fine.
