Discuss How to capture screen shots from the planner on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. How to capture screen shots from the planner - Discussion, tips and tricks for using the IKEA Home Planning software..
You can save the layout and 3D views of your kitchen from the planner, and attach or upload them!
Here's how:
1. Get the shot you want on the screen, either the layout or a 3D picture.
2. Choose File/Save As
3. Change the file type to Bitmap - .bmp (down at the bottom of the Save As screen in a dropdown box. The default is .fpf format which is the planner file).
4. Name your file appropriately (i.e. layout.bmp) and click SAVE
5. You now have a bitmap picture saved on your hard drive.
You will probably want to use a graphics program to open the bitmap file and resize it, then save as a .jpg file to save some space. Bitmaps are big.
You can do multiple views in 3D, using the arrows to rotate the 3D rendering, and save them all!
Thank you for the info. I followed all the instructions, but don't know if there is a 'send to'. I cannot upload the Planner on my Mac and can't seem to get it to go anywhere from my PC. I'll have to scan to share...just thought there would be an easier way.
First you need to be sure that your .fpf file is converted (or saved as) a .bmp.
To upload pictures (I need to do a tutorial on this), go to the galleries. First step is choosing a category - in this case, choose Implementation>Plans, then click continue. Once there, click on upload and you'll get the form for uploading into that category - some categories call for different bits of info on the photo, and although it may look like a lot, it really just takes a few extra seconds. The idea is to make things very accessible to others searching for the same photos in the future.
So, browse to your picture on your computer, or drop in the URL for a picture that's hosted elsewhere. Give it a title (include the shape of the kitchen and your membername, i.e. U-shaped kitchen plan - PatLukes), Choose Type = Plan, General Category of Room = Kitchen, Product Line = Akurum/
Faktum
, and a description (like, this is the close to final plan that has the wall of pantries flanking the refrigerator, or some such), then Photo Source = Member Submitted Photo. Hit upload and you should be all set.
Your photo will show up in the
galleries
and also, you'll be able to access it and any other photos you've uploaded by clicking on the My Pictures link underneath the smilies box right of your text editor - you'll get a popup from which you can select pictures by category to add to your threads or blog. Additionally, if you want to use others' photos in threads or your blog, you can put photos in Albums and access them throught the same link and popup - this, however requires a whole other mini-tutorial.
Faktum definition
Faktum is the European equivalent of Akurum; that is, the fitted, frameless, component kitchen cabinet line, which when paired with door and drawer fronts as well as interior accessories makes up the full kitchen cabinet system.
Here is another way to capture screen shots: Use the "snipping tool"
Here is another way to save a screen shot and send it to someone, for instance. You can simply use the "snipping tool" that comes with Windows 7 , Windows Vista, some Windows XP service packs (and others). You simply open the "snipping tool", select "new", then "rectangular" and then drag a rectangle around the area you want in your saved shot. Then select "edit" -"copy." Then open up a Microsoft Word document and click "edit" -"paste" and it will appear in the Word document; (don't forget to save your new Word file). I've done this quite a bit and it works well. You can paste as many screen shots as you want into the Word document. Then you can send it via email, print it, or whatever!
The only tricky part I've had with using the snipping tool is that if you don't select "new" with each snip, it seems to outline everything in red when you drag the rectangle around the shots.
Works like a charm. Hope this helps someone.
For me, the easiest way to do this in Windows is to use the "print screen" feature. This saves a copy of what the screens looks like in the buffer, then you open Microsoft Paint (start, programs, accessories, Paint) and paste it to the Paint screen. Then you can click "save as" and save it as JPEG or GIF or BMP or PNG.
To get the screen capture, while holding down the shift key, press the Print Screen button. On a standard keyboard, this should be in the upper right area of the keyboard somewhere, and could be shortened to something like "PrtScn" like it is on my keyboard. On my HP laptop, I have to press the Function key and then press print screen. Once you have done this, the screen image is in the buffer, and you can click Control+V (hold down the control key and press V) and that will paste it to Paint, and to other programs such as Word or Excel.
For the record, and what it's worth:
the planner in 2007 was totally different than the planner in 2011. For whatever reason it was resurrected. Always strange for me.
for macs, pres shift+command+4. this changes the mouse pointer to a cross-hair. move the cross-hair to one corner, then click-hold-drag diagonally until the image you want is encased. let go and find that encased "screenshot" on your desktop. it will be a *.png file.
