First, please NO , not a web based planner... I much prefer a download and install in .DEB format.
And just to prove I am not here just to snipe off comments.... You want a Linux tester, send it my way. I will gladly test it.
In these times of everlasting changes and overnight updates a Web planner is a pretty good thing. Then you know everyone is using the most up to date version, which is a big problem with today’s planner.
Also we're aiming as usual at the many people, and just loading up your web browser and installing a plug-in is pretty much as easy as it gets.
When it comes to Linux, yes of course we would like to support it as well. But as usual the biggest focus is on the many people. And because of things we can't control this means Windows... however we're hoping that the new platform will enable us to be able to easily expand on to new platforms as shown with the Mac support. So I'm hoping it's just a matter of time until we can support Linux as well.
Thanks for your feedback it will not go unnoticed and if we need an external Linux tester down the road, I know exactly who to contact.
Just wondering, am I the only one trying to run the Web based home planner under Ubuntu (Lucid) ?
Linux firefox gets stuck after pushing the button.
Wine firefox actually loads and install the 3D 20-20 addon fine .
However.... using the app then seems unstable .
When trying from scratch adding a door or anything, most of the time the drawing canvas gets stuck and doesn't seem to respond to pushing any of the widgets.
I'm running Ubuntu Lucid on a Dell D610 with 1 Gb and a 1024x768 display.
Anybody with same experience ? Tips much appreciated.

Dear hadirajan,
meanwhile 2011 came ... and still no IKEA tool which works under linux ...
Thinking that the planning tool will work only online a linux version is more important than ever!
We (and our future kitchen) are in desperate need of it.

Hello uehgreen,
Yes, unfortunately getting the planner into our IT-ecosystem has proven to be more difficult than first thought. Also there are some internal working methods that are being discussed as well.
So at the moment Kitchens is the only focus, and when it comes to platforms it's just the current ones that are being focused on.
I am just returning to the forum (away for 1.5 years or so), obviously missed a lot of changes, and am a Linux-only guy at this point.
I just tried to launch the web planner from Firefox under Linux Mint 9 (current). The web page loads and read "Please download a compatible browser Firefox, Explorer, Opera(?)"
Is there a need for a Java component or such?
You would think someone has had same results as mine before, and problem had been brought to the surface..?
The planner has massive issues with Firefox. I know ikea thinks you can use it, but you really can't. The planner gets worse with every upgrade, it's embarrassing.
I'm a
newbie
to this forum but have considerable experience in planning and fitting kitchens over many years.
Because I prefer Linux (Ubuntu 11.10) to any other OS, (
ie
DOS, Windows 3.1 thro' to 2000) I have read the threads here with interest, and in the forlorn hope that IKEA's Planner might be of some use to me in designing a new kitchen for a flat I own.
Sadly, not only is it not written with any regard to the millions of Linux users, but it won't even run in Wine!
I want to use IKEA units for this project as I like the look and variety of sizes etc, so if anyone out there has experience (hopefully successful experience!) of using the planner within a Linux OS I'd love to hear from you.
If there are any IKEA IT people reading this, please take the suggestions offered within these threads and produce a Linux version!

Hi William, I'm glad you're so happy with the IKEA Planner ..... you must be a Windoze user! My point was that it doesn't run on Linux!
Re first quote:- Yes, and while Rome continues to burn the IKEA IT team are still fiddling and here we are in 2012!
A serious, and totally free, suggestion for all frustated IKEA fans:- visit QCAD Downloads and start using the Trial .version of this great 2D CAD program. The learning curve is steepish, especially so if you have no prior knowledge of CAD but it WILL do all your kitchen (and any other plans) with relative ease.
Ihave now finished planning my new kitchen and won't be bothering with the IKEA Planner though I'll be using IKEA cabinets etc
By the way, the lack of 3D isn't really such a hang-up; a Plan and elevations of whichever walls have cabinets on them is all that's needed.
Hope this helps!
