Well, my father-in-law fixed it while I was out, but it did get fixed!
As far as I know, he used some force to get the thing open and it was all corroded together inside (I don't really understand why Ikea should make taps which can corrode in the first place). I am not a handyman at all, but my father-in-law is a bicycle repair man by trade, so he knew what he was doing, how much force to apply, etc.
I did manage to get the pdf from Ikea. They were actually very helpful, with no BS. and, after a quick phone call to a friendly support lady, she sent it to me as an email attachment in a matter of minutes.
The diagram you want is here:
In our case, it was a matter of getting a new 117642, the little brass thing which we bought from a local plumbing supply shop. No need to go to Ikea for it, although I am sure they would supply it if you ordered it.
Apparently there are left and right handed versions, and my father-in-law bought the 'wrong' one, so it has taken me some time to get used to the fact that both taps now have to be rotated towards yourself to be turned on (i.e. one counter-clockwise and the other clockwise). Previously they both had to be rotated counter-clockwise. Not a big deal, but you know how breaking habitual patterns like turning taps can be very disorientating.
Hi, thanks for the design. I have the same hot and cold taps, mine is also dripping. My query is a plumber came round to get to the washer, however was unable to open the taps.
Can someone tell me how i can do this. He unscrewed all the little bits on the tap rotation mechanism, but couldnt pull it off to get to the washer. Can someone please reply.
Has anyone got any idea how the tap controls come off? From the diagram it looks like they are a push fit onto a splined shaft but I tried levering/pulling with no success. Do you have to loosen all/some of the capstans is there a concealed allen key under one of the capstans....?
UPDATE: Just spoke to someone in my local IKEA store and he tells me that this dual control model is unservicable i.e not designed to come apart - even though the manual shows them seperated (!). The single control model has an allen screw under one of the capstans and can be dismantled.
I suspect one would have to apply considerable pulling power to get the controls off as they must be very tight interference fits, maybe that's how bicycle repair man did it....?
Annoying, because (technically) the tap is still under the 10 year guarentee, but I'd have to take it out and bring to the shop for replacement with new one....
I have a ALSVIK dual control kitchen mixer tap with the same problem. It started dripping recently and I don't know how to repair it. The taps don't seem to be removable so I can't replace the washer.
The kitchen was already fitted when we moved into our house so we don't have the receipts, but I believe the model is less than 10 years old so it would have been under warranty.
I have been asking around and have been told by Ikea that I need to buy a new tap and get it professionally fitted. This seems a bit extreme - what should have been a 10 minute job with a screwdriver looks as though it might end up costing £200 with parts and labour.
I bought a new tap, no easy way to get them apart, although someone on this forum claimed to have done it. If you have the the receipt and it's still within the guarantee period (10 years I think) then you could take it back but how long can you live without a tap in the kitchen!? Make sure the next one you buy is servicable, I think all Ikea's new ones are.
It does look a bit puzzling, and it took me a while to find a way in. The answer is that each of those 6 fingers that stick out radially from the tap unscrew (I needed pliers for some of them). When you've got them off, the chrome plated cover comes off and you get to the ceramic cartridge. So far I've not managed to loosen the cartridge: I'm looking for a better spanner.
I've ordered a replacement part 117642 from IKEA: It remains to be seen whether it's clockwise or anticlockwise opening.
