I'm afraid I don't know the upward limit, but I'd expect it to be quite high, as long as you make *sure* to install the little bushing/doughnut/bumper thing on the bottom as that transmits the load from the center support to the floor, and the floor provides adequate support. Particle board is quite strong in compression so as long as that load is transmitted to the floor adequately the load capacity is quite high.
