Smile What a great website!

I'm very happy to have found this site. Looks like a great community of people. My wife and I are remodeling a 50s kitchen with all IKEA products. Well not ALL Ikea products. We're set on 30" wide stainless farmhouse sink. I think I can modify the base cabinet for the sink but I'm not sure what to do for the doors since they will be too tall with the sink in place. Any ideas? I'll take plenty of pictures and post my progress!

Re: What a great website!

how deep is the sink? there are other heights of doors which you would standardly use and then filler or cover panel (or such) for the space in between.

Re: What a great website!

Hi Linus, welcome to IKEAfans!

Since the sink is 10"D, I think a pair of 18"H x 15"W doors would work fine. You can then add a little filler (deco trim?) under the sink above the doors to fill out the remainder like Dulci said.

The larger problem will be the fact that your sink is 30" wide and the cabinet is 30"W less the 3/4" sides, only 28.5" interior width. I'll let Dulci or another with experience modifying help with that.

Can't wait to see progress pictures! What doorstyle are you using?
Best wishes,
Gloria

Re: What a great website!

Thanks for the great info. Is the filler just a piece of finished board we can cut to size for any purpose? That's very convenient if it's the case.

We're picking up the cabinetry this weekend, so I'll know more then, but I think my solution to the 28.5" inside width would be to cut the sides and build a shelf to span the full 30" that the sink could rest on and be secured to. The shelf could be secured to the cabinet with L brackets. Of course I'll leave a hole for plumbing.

We're going with ABSTRAKT white on all the cabinetry with Absolute Black granite counter-tops. All the appliances are stainless and the floors are "ebonized" hardwood so they're practically black. It's a pretty modern design. We're having a really hard time deciding on a backsplash, so I'm open to ideas.

I'll have some great before and after pictures I'll be sure to post.

Re: What a great website!

Hi Linus! Welcome to IKEAFANS and thanks for the compliment on the site. We like it.

We have The Fabulous Backsplooziesplat - a forum for helping out with backsplashes...there's nothing like a good backsplash thread!

Love to see the pics - don't feel like you have to wait. Post the pics, start a blog, document the whole process. You'd be amazed at how obsessed some people can get with following progress. Noone in particular...just sayin'
