I am very depressed. I saw an IKea Klippan loveseat and I bought it without measuring my doors.
It was already assembled. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for taking these couches apart? I love the couch. It is very MOD. I'm a big fan of Vernor Panton, Tulip chairs and Gnoll furniture. As a designer myself I really appreciate the modern design of the Ikea and from my limited experience this loveseat seems very durable also. I am attempting to disassemble tomorrow to move it into my newly renovated basement. The instructions that I downloaded from this site seem confusing and not very descriptive. This is the leather Klippan. It is a beautiful couch and I hope that I don't have to sell it due to it not fitting. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
Well, if the guts are anything like the cloth Klippan I should be able to unscrew the wingnuts pop off staples that attach the leather and lift the top half off.
The leather Klippan is built like the old one, in that it's one piece. Your best bet is to remove the legs and try moving it sideways (back side down), as it's height is shorter than it's depth.
They did design this sofa to fit through most doorways (with the newer flat-packed fabric Klippan even easier). However, if sideways wouldn't fit, then yeah, you are stuck.

Ok, For those of you who run into this same problem:
Moving the leather one piece Ikea Klippan is a snap.
As a matter of fact it is not one piece at all. It is TWO PIECES, and very easy to take apart with an adjustable wrench and a screw driver. Take the center (cushion) piece out and it will go anywhere you want to put it.
The furniture movers wanted $250.00 to take this apart. You need no knowledge of this product to take it apart. A monkey could do it. 1. Take off the bottom cloth that is stapled to the leather. 2. You will see two bolts on the left and two bolts on the right. Remove them with a wrench. 3. You will also see three guide screws Use a phillips head to remove these. 4. watch the couch come apart into two easy to move pieces. 5. Reassemble in reverse order.
Excellent news! Thanks for the update and glad it worked out for you!

Excellent news! Would you mind if we re-named the thread so that others with the same problem can find it in the future? Wish we had one handy so we could take some photos to help out the next person that needs to take one apart ;-), and thank you very much for posting back with the solution!.

Hmmm ... I might just have to check that with my spare one-piece fabric Klippan to see if it's constructed the same ...
I'll have to get it back from my sister's place first, though.

From what I've gathered the cloth and leather Klippans are constructed different. It looks like the newer cloth Klippan separates into two pieces also but according to assembly instructions it's a little different. I know that the leather Klippan comes apart. The seat cushion comes right out and you are left with the frame. I just took it apart yesterday. We went down a slim flight of spiral stairs with it in two pieces. It was easy. I would suggest a cordless drill with a phillip's head screw bit and a wrench. A cat's paw would come in handy to pull excess staples. You might also need a staple gun to put the cloth back on the bottom.
Thank you engineers at Ikea for making this furniture not only practical, durable and inexpensive but also well-built and easy to disassemble.
I'll buy this furniture for the rest of life—
